Dragon's Dogma 2 Fans Are Convinced Capcom Is Teasing An Expansion

Capcom’s 2024 open-world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 could be set to follow in the footsteps of its predeccesor with a major expansion, with the game’s community convinced a recent piece of artwork celebrating the game’s second anniversary is holding a number of clues.

A post on March 22 from the official Dragon’s Dogma account on X states it had prepared a “special celebratory artwork” for the game’s anniversary, one depicting a party in a tavern. That’s not exactly out of the ordinary, but upon closer inspection, fans think there is good reason to believe an expansion could be on the way.

Hail, Arisen! The 2nd anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is upon us. To celebrate the milestone, we’ve prepared this special celebratory artwork.

As pointed out by user PaiDuck on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 subreddit (via Restart), the artwork sports a number of teases. A letter prominently shown on the table translates to “Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed.”

There’s also a mysterious character in the background, one with unique armor and hair that doesn’t appear to be from the current version of Dragon’s Dogma 2. The character is also the only one to have their back turned, adding to the mystery.

While the northern regions of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s world aren’t able to be accessed by players currently, there are a number of references to it in the game already. An armor set called the Hyperboreal Lorica references a group of legendary bow-wielding people to the north, and there are other references to the region that describe it is an “ancient nation, but records of its existence are scarce, and there has been no contact with its people for over a century.”

It wouldn’t be out of left field for Dragon’s Dogma 2 to receive a major DLC expansion, as that’s exactly what happened with the first Dragon’s Dogma. It was released in 2012 and received its Dark Arisen expansion, which added a new part of the world, additional bosses, and more character classes, a year later in 2013.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold more than 4 million copies as of November 2025. In GameSpot’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 review, writer Richard Wakeling said the sequel is for those who fell in love with the original, with the sequel earning a spot “amongst the pantheon of Capcom’s very best.”
