It's Officially the End of an Era for Roblox

It’s the end of an era for Roblox, as the game has officially converted and removed Classic Faces from the game. Though much of the Roblox community knew this day was coming, and the game has tried to make adjustments to improve the transition, many players are not happy with this change.

An announcement was made earlier in 2026 that Roblox would be getting rid of traditional static Faces and switching entirely to animated Dynamic Heads. Despite the backlash from players, Roblox went ahead with its decision, and now the community is mourning what’s been lost as a result.

Roblox Says Goodbye to Classic Faces

It was announced that as of March 23, all Roblox Classic Faces had been changed into Dynamic Heads. The developer has given players the option to toggle facial animations on or off, and players can switch between head shapes they own while maintaining the same face. While the company emphasizes that it’s working on making the new Dynamic Heads match the original look of the discontinued Faces and Heads as closely as possible, there’s still work to be done.

Despite Roblox‘s efforts, players are already pointing out how different some of the new Dynamic Heads look in comparison to the original Classic Faces. Roblox seems to be aware that the Heads aren’t yet where fans would like them to be, as it announced that it’s partnered with a studio called Kestrel to review Head conversions and ensure they are as close to the originals as possible. It remains to be seen how successful Kestrel is, but judging from the discontent being voiced on social media, a lot of players would have preferred for either no change to have been made at all, or for Kestrel’s quality assurance to have been deployed prior to making the change public.

On sites like Reddit, a portion of the Roblox community has been discussing the changes and their concerns about the future. Roblox has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, and players are concerned that the trend won’t end here. The changes to Faces aren’t completely finished yet, as user-created Static Heads have been removed from sale, but their makers still have some time left to update them to Dynamic Heads. If the change isn’t completed by June 15, those Heads will be completely removed from players’ inventories. As a result, some players are concerned about the Heads that they’ve spent real money on.

As noted, this is just the latest of the changes made to Roblox. The developer announced at the end of 2025 that Roblox would be removing many System Badges in 2026. Further, the company introduced new age verification and restriction policies in an effort to protect kids on the platform from potential predators. However, this has also led to many players no longer being able to communicate with friends they had made on the platform due to their ages being grouped separately. Given the ongoing lawsuits against Roblox due to both alleged failure to protect children as well as individual families suing following their children being kidnapped by predators they allegedly met in the game, however, it’s unlikely that Roblox will roll back age-related changes.

Given the team’s efforts with Kestrel to try and match the original quality of the static Faces in the game, it’s possible that some players’ intial frustrations may be resolved in time. Given that Roblox has been around for twenty years, it’s understandable that these changes could be quite upsetting to those who have grown accustomed to the way things are done in the game over such a long period of time. It remains to be seen if the continued changes have an impact on Roblox‘s overall playercount, as it is still one of the most popular games on the internet to date.
