Fortnite Adds Special April Fools Day Content, But There's a Major Catch

Fortnite has had an inconsistent relationship with April Fools’ Day in the past, dropping skins like Diamond Hanz some years and then limiting other years’ festivities to a simple social media joke. Fortunately, 2026 is more like the former in the sense that Epic Games is adding meaningful content to Fortnite on the day of the year that every trickster looks forward to… though the downside is that said content is literally only available for April Fools.

The first gag for April Fools’ Day is a video game classic: big head mode. Fortnite’s many human-shaped skins will have massive craniums until April 2 rolls around, which look as silly as one might expect. Intriguingly, IGN shared that Epic Games struggled to implement an enlarged head for Peely, the humanoid banana that has become an integral part of the brand. While this makes sense given his elongated body and pointy head, there are numerous Peely skins in the game. So, to ensure Peely users can get in on the fun, Epic has tossed a Cuddle Team Leader mask atop the banana’s head, enlarging that mask instead of Peely’s face.

April Fools’ Day content like the Big Head skins can be found not just in the main battle royale mode, but Reload and Blitz Royale as well.

Big Head Mode is Just a Piece of Fortnite’s April Fools’ Day Puzzle

While a simple Big Head gag would be enough for a lot of games, those hoping for Fortnite to go above and beyond are in luck. Not only do Fortnite’s characters boast huge heads for the time being, but people can make moving piles of bodies by stacking big-headed character models on top of one another. As shown by Twitter user and regular source of Fortnite leaks, @HYPEX, the stacking process is as simple as using a limited-time emote and having another player join in. The first player who hops on will grab the hand of the user on the bottom of the pillar for a boost, while every player that jumps on afterward will simply leap onto the top of the stack.

Seeing a tower of players looming over a hill on Fortnite’s Island is sure to get a laugh out of anyone playing the game today, and the gags keep coming thanks to a limited-time weapon players can pick up on their travels: finger guns. These function exactly as one would expect, with players simply gesturing at their foes with their hands to deal damage. Another gag sees Fortnite’s iconic llamas being made rideable, while the final joke is the removal of fall damage in favor of a silly splat audio cue. All of this comes together to make for a fun time, and a less frustrating way to spend April Fools’ Day for those tired of getting tricked.

Enjoy Fortnite’s April Fools Content While You Can

With a 24-hour time limit, Fortnite players will have to act fast if they want to fire off some finger guns, make a human tower with their friends, or jump off some ridiculously high ledges without being punished for it. The April Fools’ Day Fortnite content is live from now until 5:30 AM EST on April 2, so as entertaining as it may be, it’s also extremely short-lived. Perhaps these elements will be added to Fortnite Creative at some point so talented members of the game’s community can play around with them, but with it being equally possible for them to be a one and done, players should enjoy them while they can.

With other live-service games like Overwatch nailing April Fools’ updates, and being celebrated for it, hopefully this is the start of a new era for Epic Games. April Fools’ Day 2026 seems like a particularly good one for Fortnite fans, and if all goes well, perhaps next year will be even better.
