Pokemon Champions Bug On Switch 2 Demands You Briefly Undock The System

Pokemon Champions Bug On Switch 2 Demands You Briefly Undock The System

The launch of Pokemon Champions has come with more problems than you can fit in a Poke Ball, but a Switch 2-specific bug affecting the game’s resolution might take the cake as the strangest issue.

Prominent Pokemon fan account Centro Leaks (via IGN) pointed out that Pokemon Champions runs at a lower 1080p resolution in TV mode on Switch 2, and the current solution to get proper 4K visuals is to undock the Switch 2 and re-dock it. Joe Merrick, owner of fan site Serebii, corroborated the existence of the glitch in an X post.

Pokemon Champions only has a version for the first Nintendo Switch, but it’s one of many Nintendo-published titles with enhanced visuals through a free Switch 2 update. According to Nintendo’s website, Champions on Switch 2 is optimized for the console’s screen and “high-resolution TVs for improved image quality.”

Pokémon Champions bug on Switch 2 causes RESOLUTION TO BE HALVED:
– If you start the game while the console is docked the resolution is halved
– If you undock and dock the console while the game is running the resolution gets fixed

The cause of the visual bug is unclear, but Merrick’s post seems to lay the blame on developer ILCA and its utilization of the Unity game engine, which Pokemon Champions was built with. The developer for Champions is listed as The Pokemon Works, which is a joint venture between ILCA and The Pokemon Company. ILCA’s most prolific work in the Pokemon franchise was the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes for Switch, which were also built in Unity.

The Pokemon Company acknowledged the bugs and issues that Champions faces, having just deployed a fix for a glitch that stranded monsters in Pokemon Home. Developers are also planning to fix errors involving Pokemon in the tutorial with the incorrect gender labels and glitches involving Mega Evolution. There hasn’t been any official word from The Pokemon Company about the Switch 2 resolution problem.

While Pokemon Champions is only playable on Switch platforms at the moment, the game will also launch on mobile smart devices sometime this year.
