Bloodborne Fans Don’t Seem Excited About Sony’s Animated Film Adaptation

Last night, during the first day of CinemaCon 2026, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that an animated Bloodborne film, based on FromSoftware’s PlayStation 4 game of the same name, is officially in the works. Reactions to the announcement currently range from quietly excited to outright perturbed, with the latter camp questioning why Sony is producing such a project when it’s seemingly allergic to remastering the original game it’s based on.

As Variety reports, details on the movie are currently sparse. For the time being, all we know is that the animated Bloodborne film will be R-rated, and it will be co-produced by Lyrical Animation (who are also working on Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding: Mosquito), PlayStation Productions, and content creator Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin.

Variety’s piece also featured a small quote from Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment, who stated during the CinemaCon presentation that the film will be “very true” to the original game. Jacksepticeye also posted a statement on the r/bloodborne subreddit in which he stated that he was “incredibly excited” to finally talk about his role in the project.

“I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible,” Jacksepticeye stated in the post. “Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it. I can’t share much about the project right now but man does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!”

However, the top comments made in reply to Jacksepticeye’s post don’t seem to be too keen on the announcement. “Hahahaha ok, what kind of out of pocket april fool’s prank is this,” stated one user. “We got a Bloodborne Feature film before 60 FPS Patch smh,” replied another.

Now, to be fair to Jacksepticeye, he has made his love for the game very public knowledge in the ten-plus years since its release. The man has at least three Bloodborne tattoos, so I don’t think we can question his admiration of the game. However, the true sticking point for some fans seems to be FromSoftware’s lack of involvement in the Bloodborne film.

That being said, key details such as who’s directing the film and who’s writing it have yet to be announced, so there’s still plenty of time for Sony to reveal FromSoftware’s and/or Hidetaka Miyazaki’s involvement in the project. But personally, until we get an official announcement that FromSoftware is on board with it, I can’t say I am either.
