Borderlands 4 fans have discovered what may be the next DLC Vault Hunter referenced within datamined dialogue. This leak comes just after Borderlands 4 launched its first story DLC pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, alongside its first post-launch Vault Hunter, C4SH. While developer Gearbox Software has confirmed that a second DLC, along with another new playable Vault Hunter, will be released, no further details about this expansion have been shared.
The latest entry in the Borderlands series has garnered some criticism for its post-launch support. Many fans were unhappy with the price of Borderlands 4‘s Story Pack 1 DLC, taking issue with the minimal 2-3 hours of content for the $30 price tag. Where this first Story Pack is praised is in its new Vault Hunter, C4SH, making any future playable characters an exciting proposition for Borderlands 4 fans.

Borderlands 4 Fans Think They’ve Found DLC 2’s Vault Hunter in New Datamine
Reddit user jakobsestate shared their findings from a datamine of Borderlands 4‘s subtitles they conducted and found what could be a reference to the next DLC Vault Hunter in unused dialogue. The name “Loveless” appears multiple times throughout the datamined subtitles, potentially suggesting that this is the name of the Vault Hunter coming in DLC 2. It’s unclear who, or what, this Loveless is, especially since they refer to themselves as “we,” but the fact that the name appears in so many dialogue options supports the theory that they are planned to be the second DLC Vault Hunter.
In the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC, the character Mancubus can make several different remarks about the game’s Vault Hunters, including one line of dialogue that says, “it seems you’ve suffered an unbounded recursion, eh, mistress Loveless.” While this was initially believed to be directed at Borderlands 4‘s Vex, these newly uncovered lines of dialogue suggest that the “Loveless” Mancubus is referring to here is a different character entirely. Since this dialogue appears alongside other quips directed at the game’s Vault Hunters, it’s easy to see how this could be a teaser for a future playable character.
To further fuel this theory, user jakobsestate found the name Loveless in unused dialogue alongside other variations for the rest of the Vault Hunters. In the image posted to Reddit, the line “Yes! This is Loveless — We are a Vault Hunter” can be found right alongside a variation of this same dialogue for the existing Vault Hunter Rafa, which reads “Yes! This is Rafa. I’m a Vault Hunter.” What’s more is that another line of dialogue was discovered, which reads “We are Loveless. I am looking for a woman named Ellie.” While this line incorrectly mixes pronouns, it further cements the idea that Loveless is the name of a playable character.

Comments on user jakobsestate’s post are already theorizing who this mysterious Loveless could be and how they could work as a Vault Hunter. Some users note the character’s use of the “we” pronoun when referring to themselves, suggesting it could be some kind of hivemind, with others theorizing that Loveless could even be an Eridian Vault Hunter. Another possibility is that Loveless is using the royal we to refer to themselves as a sort of status symbol, meaning they could be a more posh Vault Hunter like Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s Aurelia Hammerlock. However, until the next Borderlands 4 DLC pack is officially revealed, this is all just fan speculation.
