Pragmata is a story about a space marine bonding with and protecting a robot child, and it all takes place in a station on the moon. As such, David Menkin, the voice behind that space marine, has been spending a lot of time on the floating space rock while recording lines as Hugh. Because he has been so immersed in space travel for work, he’s apparently been trying to keep his mouth shut about space travel in public, lest he accidentally spoil something in Capcom’s sci-fi puzzle shooter.
In an interview with Polygon, Menkin talks about the difficulties of not being able to talk about what you’re working on when you’re an actor. In his day-to-day, he can’t tell his family about projects like Pragmata, which is hard enough, but when the Artemis II NASA crew was flying around the moon things really got tough, as Menkin said he refrained from posting about it, despite his excitement, for fear of Capcom thinking he was breaking his NDA.
“I didn’t want anyone from Capcom to be like, ‘Excuse me, is that a picture of the moon or is that a picture of our moon?’” he told Polygon.
Menkin said that his “entire career has been around the moon,” referencing how he has played a few spacefaring roles as an actor, including Neil Armstrong, the first astronaut to walk on the moon, in the 2018 short film Moths to Flame and again in an audio drama called Buzz opposite actor John Lithgow. “I’ve done all the famous quotes, Neil’s famous quotes,” Menkin said. “I know so much about the fucking moon.”
