A Battlefield Movie Is Coming To Kick Off Another Battle With Call Of Duty

A Battlefield Movie Is Coming To Kick Off Another Battle With Call Of Duty

After multiple attempts by major studios to make a Battlefield TV show failed to pan out, a Battlefield movie is now said to be in the works with major names attached. This is coming to light not long after Paramount announced a Call of Duty movie for 2028, with big names signed on for it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible series) will write, direct, and produce a Battlefield movie, with Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) producing as well, and possibly starring in it, depending on how a deal may come together.

The report said the Battlefield movie was pitched to Apple and Sony this week, with other meetings taking place today, April 24. A theatrical release is being prioritized, the report said, so it’s unclear if Netflix could be in the mix for the bidding process. McQuarrie has a working relationship with Paramount with the Mission: Impossible series, but it’s unknown of Paramount will take a meeting for the potential Battlefield movie.

GameSpot has contacted EA seeking comment.

As for the Battlefield game series, Battlefield 6 launched in 2025 and was a huge success, selling millions of copies and finishing 2025 as the year’s best-selling game.

The Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises have been rivals in the FPS space for years, and now they could go up against each other at the box office as well.

Multiple failed attempts so far

In 2024, Battlefield boss Vince Zampella–who has since passed away–said EA had held discussions about a Battlefield movie or TV show already. A decade ago, Paramount bought the rights to make a Battlefield TV show, but it never materialized. In 2012, Fox was developing an hour-long comedy show based on the Battlefield: Bad Company series, with Adam Sandler’s company signed on. This show also did not come to fruition.

Today, it’s a different world for video game adaptations, as they are popping up everywhere as Hollywood looks for yet another content library to mine for ideas. There are more than 50 video game movies currently at some stage of production.

Nintendo has had more success than anyone, with its two Mario animated movie combining to make more than $2 billion at the box office. This year will see release of multiple more video game movies, with Mortal Kombat 2 coming in May, Street Fighter in October, and Resident Evil in September.
