A Court of Thorns and Roses has become one of fantasy’s biggest franchises, with 13+ million books sold and 75+ million across the wider writings (Throne of Glass, Crescent City, and ACOTAR), and a new official adaptation called ACOTAR: Fate and Favor expands the franchise on October 6, 2026. Of course, many fans are awaiting author Sarah J. Maas’ next book, but when it comes to expanding the franchise beyond the novels, that should be just as hyped up for many fans.
A Court of Thorns and Roses follows Feyre Archeron, a young woman whose life changes after she is pulled into the magical world of Prythian, a land divided among powerful courts and filled with ancient magic. What begins as a story about survival gradually expands into something much larger, introducing complex relationships, political struggles, hidden threats, and a sprawling fantasy world that has helped make Maas’ series such a major part of modern fantasy stories. Now, publisher Goliath is giving fans a new way to enter Prythian and compete for control of its courts.
ACOTAR: Fate and Favor Is the Franchise’s First Official Board Game
A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor is a new strategy board game launching October 6 for $24.99. Players will choose one of Prythian’s seven courts (Night, Day, Dawn, Winter, Summer, Spring, or Autumn), become a High Lord or Lady, and compete for influence while managing alliances and shifting loyalties across the realm. The core gameplay revolves around forming alliances, expanding influence, and navigating court politics (including fan-favorite moments from the franchise), complete with unique new artwork for featured characters and locations from the beloved book series. Each player can shape their stories, too, with unique character abilities, court powers, and special events.

It’s worth noting that the developers are self-proclaimed longtime ACOTAR fans who had the goal of staying true to the series’ themes and setting, which is why the publisher didn’t go it alone. Goliath developed the game alongside IMG Licensing, all to deliver an excellent adaptation for its first official licensed board game. At a glance, fans can expect:
- Players can take control of one of Prythian’s seven High Lords or High Ladies.
- Strategy centers on alliances, influence, and court politics.
- Original artwork features characters and locations from the books.
- Three editions are planned, including a Target Exclusive Edition and a Bookseller Variant with exclusive packaging.
According to Goliath CEO Jochanan Golad, the series’ themes helped shape everything from the mechanics to the artwork and physical components. Goliath has not yet revealed when the standard edition or Bookseller Variant will become available, but additional details about both versions are expected in the coming weeks. That will give ACOTAR fans several options when the franchise’s first official board game finally arrives on October 6.
