A Plague Tale has developed a dedicated following for its dark take on historical fiction, and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy looks to deliver fans the longest, most in-depth experience yet. Moving away from protagonists Hugo and Amicia from A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, Resonance takes fans into the past as Sophia—the smuggler introduced in Requiem.
Neither A Plague Tale: Innocence nor A Plague Tale: Requiem is a long game. Depending on how someone plays and goes about collectibles, the first game can be beaten in under 15 hours and the sequel is just a little longer, roughly around 17 hours. As such, it’s worth noting that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy may be the longest game in the franchise, but that does not mean it’s a long, sprawling game.
How Long to Beat Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
When Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy releases on August 27, fans can expect it to take around 20 hours to beat (as always, depending on how someone plays). That means it’s just a few hours longer than both games, making it the longest in the franchise, as confirmed in Focus Entertainment’s updated FAQ for the upcoming game. Of course, it’s worth noting that this is based on the publisher’s current estimate, and while that’s unlikely to change between now and release, it’s not always the most accurate in the world. Sometimes how long devs/publishers think it’ll take gamers doesn’t always line up with the “typical’ game, even as some are much faster or much slower.

The FAQ also makes clear that playing the previous games is not required. Focus Entertainment specifically says that even though Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a spin-off/prequel, players can enjoy the full experience without having played A Plague Tale: Innocence or A Plague Tale: Requiem. For those who loved the stealth-puzzle sections of the first two games, though, it’s also important to adjust expectations—Resonance is much more action-focused than past Plague Tale games. It also features a cool time-bending feature around Sophia’s journey on the Minotaur’s Island, roughly 15 years before she appears in Requiem.
There are a few other details tucked away in the FAQ, including the expected file size. Resonance is currently listed at roughly 76GB on PC and around 66GB on Xbox Series X/S consoles. The PS5 version comes in at the smallest file size of 58GB, but all gamers should be sure they have the available space as soon as possible. It’s worth mentioning that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is available on Xbox Game Pass day one.
A 20-hour runtime gives Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy a little more room to establish its own story while still fitting the cinematic format the series is known for. As importantly, its status as a prequel means players don’t need years of Plague Tale knowledge to understand what is happening. Longtime fans can rest assured that the Prima Macula is still involved somehow, while newcomers can learn exactly what that means from Sophia’s eyes.
