“Absolutely Furious” Former Nintendo PR Manager Comments on Company Reaction to Latest Switch 2 Leaks

Following recent leaks of several Nintendo Switch 2 games, former Nintendo of America public relations manager Kit Ellis has said that the company is likely “absolutely furious.” Fans have been eager to learn more about Nintendo Switch 2 games set to be released throughout the rest of 2026, and into 2027. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and Splatoon Raiders are all exclusively coming to the system before the end of the year, but no other first-party games have been announced at this time.

Leaker Nate the Hate recently revealed multiple Nintendo Switch 2 games supposedly in development, including a new Star Fox game set to arrive this summer, as well as a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time due in the holiday season. It has also been claimed that a new 3D Mario game will be released sometime in 2027. None of this information has been confirmed by Nintendo, but the rumors have circulated widely online, and Nate the Hate has proven to be a reliable source of information in the past.

A Switch Game is Being Delisted on June 1

Nintendo Switch owners have just a couple of months remaining to buy a well-regarded game before it gets delisted from the eShop.

On YouTube, former Nintendo of America public relations manager Kit Ellis shared a reaction to the recent leaks by Nate the Hate. Ellis left the company in 2022, but has become a commentator on the company since, often sharing his thoughts alongside fellow former Nintendo employee Krysta Yang. In a solo video, Ellis talked about Nintendo’s secretive nature, and how it thrives when it can surprise fans. The company would have much preferred to announce these games on its own, likely through the next major Nintendo Direct. That would have helped the company better shape the narrative. Ellis also mentioned how leaks such as this could have a negative impact on Nintendo’s stock price.

“For a company like Nintendo’s whose approach to marketing is propped up by the element of surprise, it’s a big problem,” said Ellis. “It’s such a big problem, and we’re going to have to see if this happens, but it seems like it could do something like impact Nintendo’s stock price, with investors just seeing what Nintendo has coming up and deciding if they like that or not.”

It remains to be seen whether these Switch 2 leaks are accurate, but they do seem like distinct possibilities. Fox McCloud has been confirmed for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and there hasn’t been a new Star Fox game since 2016. The movie’s spotlight could be the perfect excuse for Nintendo to resurrect a franchise that largely skipped the Switch era, outside of crossovers like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Star Fox is a series Nintendo fans have been eager to see return, and a new game on Nintendo Switch 2 seemed like a very real possibility even before the character was announced for the Mario movie sequel.

A remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also makes a lot of sense. This year is the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda‘s release on the Famicom, and fans had been expecting some kind of announcement to mark the occasion. A remake of one of the most beloved games in the series seems like a logical choice, as it could appeal to a wide range of players. There are always major concerns about how a remake will approach the source material, but that’s why controlling the announcement would have been a more desirable outcome for Nintendo.

In addition to the leaks of Nintendo-published games, Nate the Hate also claimed that Devil May Cry 5 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. While leaks can be exciting, they can also have a hugely negative impact on video game publishers. If fans don’t like what they hear, it can taint the perception of a game before a company has even had a chance to make an announcement. They can also have an impact on how announcements are made. If the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake isn’t due to be released until the holiday season, Nintendo might have been planning to wait until September to make an announcement. However, now the company might choose to speed things up, in order to placate fans expecting something earlier. And if these leaks prove to be inaccurate, it could make some fans disappointed if they don’t come to pass.
