This morning, Activision shared yet another update in its ongoing saga to deal with rampant cheating in Call of Duty multiplayer, and this one’s a doozy: the publisher seems to have sent a legal representative to the home of notorious cheat maker Elocarry to serve him with a cease-and-desist takedown order, and filmed the entire interaction.

In a post on X, the official Call of Duty account shared a one-minute video of a representative arriving at Elocarry’s house in Ohio with the cease and desist paperwork. The actual video itself isn’t all that spicy—the rep explains what they’re there for and hands over the legal threat, Elocarry takes it, and the rep leaves.
But the tameness of the video itself isn’t really the point. Activision wants you to know that its ongoing work to stop Call of Duty cheating is having a real impact, and also that it’s willing to target you publicly in an IRL stunt that might go viral online. The publisher posted a screenshot from Elocarry’s Discord announcing that cheat availability for Call of Duty (and something else?) has been paused while the creator “reviews a matter internally.” It’s also sharing stats from the recent Modern Warfare 4 early access beta weekend demonstrating improvements to its own anti-cheating endeavors, including more effective bans and improved speed:

“In our ongoing fight against cheat developers and sellers, we’ve disrupted more than 375 cheat reseller operations, served more than 80 cease-and-desist demands and shut down more than 30 vendors,” one post from Activision reads. “And there’s more to come, including litigation when necessary. We’re prepared to take cheat developers and sellers to court to protect fair play.”
Checking the Elocarry website, it does appear that Call of Duty cheats (neither for any of the base games, nor Warzone) are simply not available at all right now, though similar cheats for other popular games such as Rust, Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, and more remain online. In those games, Elocarry offers cheats such as aimbots and ESP (extrasensory perception) that it has claimed are undetectable in the games it serves, and it offered very similar cheats for Call of Duty previously.
Activision’s war against CoD cheaters has gone on for years, and has involved multiple lawsuits against cheat makers, as well as other in-game techniques to render the game unplayable for those who do manage to cheat. It’s largely been a game of Whack-a-mole over the years, though, as cheaters similarly grow more sophisticated, and with Modern Warfare 4‘s release coming up, Activision naturally wants to demonstrate to prospective players that its newest product will be as fun and fair as possible.
The company concluded its social media stunt today by assuring fans it will be prepared to proactively fight cheaters during the upcoming week 2 of the Modern Warfare 4 beta, and will have more to share on the subject ahead of the game’s October launch.
