Amazon Luna No Longer Allowing Users to Buy Games

Amazon Luna No Longer Allowing Users to Buy Games

Amazon Luna notified subscribers that, effective April 10, the streaming service would no longer allow users to purchase individual games or third-party subscriptions on an à la carte basis. However, this does not mean that Amazon Luna is being discontinued altogether, as Amazon is instead doubling down on GameNight and other experiences for users to peruse.

In short, Amazon Luna allows users to stream and play various games on supported devices, such as a desktop web browser or a mobile device. Amazon Luna offers two distinct subscription tiers, called Standard and Premium. Standard is included with a monthly Amazon Prime subscription at no additional cost, and includes access to a rotating list of games. Amazon Luna Premium, which requires a separate subscription at $9.99 per month, and offers a larger game library to pick from. As of October 2025, Amazon Luna’s branding has overtaken the former Prime Gaming label, as the services are now merged together.

Customer Buys Switch 2 Pro Controller from Amazon, But Gets Something Unexpected

A Nintendo user states that Amazon sent them the wrong item after purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller from the popular storefront.

Amazon Luna No Longer Allows Individual Game or Third-Party Subscription Purchases

However, Amazon Luna subscribers will no longer have access to a few features that the service once enjoyed. As of April 10, Amazon Luna subscribers can no longer purchase individual games or access third-party game stores through the Luna service. Amazon confirmed the news via an April 10 email sent out to Luna subscribers. Third-party subscriptions to services such as Ubisoft+ can no longer be made through Luna itself as part of the April 10 changes, and the Bring Your Own Library feature has been discontinued. All third-party subscriptions made via Amazon Luna will be canceled during the next billing cycle. Though no refunds are being offered, Amazon Luna subscribers can still access their purchased titles via a linked third-party platform account and app, such as GOG Galaxy or the EA App, on a compatible PC.

Game save data for affected titles can be downloaded until June 10, though it is not guaranteed if the saved data will work right away. That said, Amazon Luna is not going the way of Google Stadia, as the service is still active as of this writing. Instead, Amazon said it was “doubling down on a broad range of gaming experiences.” These experiences include GameNight and other games currently available for streaming via Amazon Luna. However, to make up for the changes, Amazon Luna customers were offered a free subscription to Amazon Luna Premium. It is not certain how long the Amazon Luna Premium offer will last.

Amazon’s Monthly Freebies Are Not Going Anywhere

Despite these sudden changes, the monthly free PC games offered via Amazon Luna are not going anywhere. Ergo, PC players who have an Amazon Prime subscription can still claim PC games available on GOG Galaxy, Epic Games Store, and the Amazon Games app at no additional cost. April’s monthly rotation of Amazon Luna freebies currently includes games like Total War: Three Kingdoms, Rebel Galaxy, and Deep Sky Derelicts.

With Amazon Prime Video also undergoing changes to its Ad Free Tier, April has not been kind to Amazon subscribers. Although the game streaming service is still actively being utilized, it remains to be seen what Amazon Luna has planned to grow its subscriber base.
