Another Game Is Making It Much Easier To Rope Your Friends Into Playing With You

Remedy Entertainment has introduced a Friend’s Pass for its multiplayer Control spin-off, FBC: Firebreak, as it ceases new content updates for the game.

The studio revealed that new content updates would end in the Steam blog post celebrating the launch of the “Open House” update. Although Open House introduces new arenas for the Endless Shift mode and a perk system rework, its most notable additions prepare the game for its future now that Remedy no longer plans to actively support it.

In addition to a permanent price drop to $20, people who haven’t purchased the game can now download the Friend’s Pass version of FBC: Firebreak on Steam or the Free Trial version of it on consoles to play the game with someone who owns it. While Friend’s Pass players can’t start games or create lobbies, they’ll have access to the full game once they connect with someone who bought it.

FBC: Firebreak launched in June 2025 but underperformed Remedy’s expectations. The company’s CEO even stepped down after it flopped. While the game has received post-launch updates in the nine months since, it wasn’t enough to convince Remedy to keep developing content updates for it long-term. Thankfully, it’s taking notes from games like Split Fiction and finding a creative way to keep the community alive rather than going the way of Highguard and shutting everything down.

“FBC: Firebreak will stay online and continue to be playable for years to come,” Remedy explained on Steam. “We have done engineering work to ensure we can sustain the upkeep of the relay server when the player volume is lower.”

If you’re wondering what’s next for Remedy now that support for this game is ending, Control Resonant is currently slated to launch later this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
