Disney’s 20th Century Studios has announced a deal to develop a movie based on 99 Nights in the Forest, one of the most popular games hosted on Roblox.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century won the rights in a “competitive” dealmaking process, though no other potential bidders were divulged, nor was the fee that 20th Century paid disclosed.
99 Nights in the Forest is developed by Grandma’s Favourite Games and hosted on Roblox, and it ranks as one of the most popular games on the platform. The game was only just released in March 2025, and in that time, it’s had more than 25.9 billion visits, according to the game’s public stats. It had more than 174,000 concurrent players today, April 14, and peaked at 14.2 million players to rank No. 3 overall for peak concurrents.
A survival game, 99 Nights in the Forest has players trying to survive for 99 nights in a haunted forest as they fight monsters and save missing children.
It’s still early days for the 99 Nights in the Forest movie, as it has no director or writer yet. The developers behind the game–Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland–will be executive producers for the movie.
20th Century boss David Greenbaum said the developers at Grandma’s Favourite Games are “exactly the kind of bold, imaginative creators we love working with.”
If the 99 Nights in the Forest movie gets released, it won’t be the first video game film from 20th Century, as it was also behind Hitman and Assassin’s Creed. However, it would be the first video game adaptation at 20th Century since Disney bought Fox’s entertainment assets.
99 Nights in the Forest is not the first game hosted on Roblox to get a movie deal, as Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot also landed Hollywood development deals.
In other Roblox news, the game’s native version for PS5 is out now with a number of upgrades and improvements, while new Kids accounts are coming this June following lawsuits and other criticisms that developer Roblox Corp. was not doing enough to protect children.
