South of Midnight will be the latest Xbox game to come to a rival system when it lands on PS5 and Switch 2 on March 31. The release date was confirmed today, following the previous announcement that South of Midnight was headed to PS5 and Switch 2 in Spring 2026.
Developed by the Microsoft-owned Compulsion Games, South of Midnight launched in April 2025 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game is set in the American Deep South and follows the character Hazel, who, along with her mother, is preparing for a huge hurricane.
Numerous other Xbox games have landed on rival platforms before this, and one of the next big ones is Halo: Campaign Evolved later this year. It will mark the mainline Halo franchise’s debut on a platform other than Xbox or PC.
Microsoft is bringing Xbox games to rival systems to help titles reach a wider audience, and to help Microsoft make more money considering how much larger the PS5 install base is, in particular. Microsoft Gaming’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, has said she understands people want Xbox exclusives back, but there is no telling if that will actually happen.
GameSpot’s South of Midnight review scored the game a 8/10. “It doesn’t exactly wow with its combat and platforming, but these parts of the game are mechanically sound, and South of Midnight’s memorable characters, incredible visuals, and catchy soundtrack are so strong that it doesn’t really matter that the gameplay is just decent,” reviewer Jordan Ramée said.
