Apex Legends Gives Update on Anti-Cheat Efforts

Apex Legends Gives Update on Anti-Cheat Efforts

With Split 2 halfway over, Respawn Entertainment has given an update on its efforts to curtail cheating in Apex Legends. While stopping foul play is a never-ending battle for the developers, the latest report is encouraging for Apex Legends players.

Apex Legends is currently in Season 28, Breach, which brought some new content to the battle royale. Specifically, the developer added the hardlight mechanic, making some windows destructible on the game’s maps. In addition, several Legends have seen their kits altered; Catalyst, Bloodhound, and Fuse all received buffs in February, while Gibraltar, Wraith, and Wattson got meaningful changes in the mid-season update for Apex Legends. While new content helps keep the experience fresh, improvements to anti-cheat systems are just as important to maintain the competitive integrity of the game.

New Apex Legends Update for April 2026 Makes Changes to Matchmaking

As Season 28 of Apex Legends carries on, Respawn Entertainment makes some changes to the game via a new update for April 2026.

Respawn Reveals How Many Cheaters Have Been Banned in Split 2 of Season 28

With this in mind, the anti-cheat team at Respawn recently gave an update on its efforts to stop cheaters in Split 2 of Season 28. In particular, the developer revealed that 28,267 accounts have been banned since April 2. While these bans were doled out for “various cheating infractions,” the report highlighted that almost 1,000 of these were due to DMA card use. This is significant because DMA cards make it easier for wrongdoers to use cheats in the battle royale. Along with banning cheaters, Respawn revealed that the total RP removed for Season 28 was 6,655,192, with 4,413,776 coming in Split 1 and 2,241,416 in Split 2 so far.

While these statistics evidence the ongoing fight against cheating in Apex Legends, the developer claimed it has been making progress with its anti-cheat systems. According to the update, the game is at a 4.1% infection rate halfway through Split 2 of Season 28. This is the lowest it has ever been since the statistic began being tracked by the anti-cheat team, meaning the frequency of encountering cheaters should be down. For context, the previous all-time low infection rate was 5.8% in December 2025.

In conclusion, Respawn revealed that more “updates, enhancements, and detections” are coming down the pipeline for the game in the coming weeks. Understandably, no details about these anti-cheat improvements could be shown, so as not to give cheaters a heads-up. Hopefully, future updates will be able to continue to improve the gameplay experience in Apex Legends for all players, as there are still some cheaters that slip through the cracks, as evidenced by the current 4.1% infection rate.

Beyond continuing anti-cheat efforts, Respawn has already pulled back the curtain on what to expect from Season 29 via a roadmap for Apex Legends. Notably, the upcoming seasonal update will introduce a new Skirmisher Legend, the first new character since Sparrow in Season 25. Fortunately, Season 29 is expected to start sometime in May, so players should start learning more about what the next Legend for the game will look like. In addition, the seasonal patch notes could provide more details on anti-cheat updates.
