Apex Legends Suddenly Removes Map Less Than Two Weeks After Reintroducing It

Respawn Entertainment has removed Storm Point from the map rotation in Apex Legends less than two weeks after it had been reintroduced. While many fans enjoy playing on Storm Point, the map has recently caused some problems for Apex Legends players, forcing the development team to take action.

Split 2 of Season 28 has begun for players, giving them the chance to climb back up the Ranked ladder once again. As with most Ranked splits, it was accompanied by a mid-season update for Apex Legends, which introduced many changes to the battle royale. Notably, Wraith, Gibraltar, and Wattson all received substantial buffs to their kits, making them more viable in Ranked play. Besides Legend alterations, the map pool was updated for the start of Split 2: Broken Moon and E-District were replaced with Olympus and Storm Point, while World’s Edge remained in rotation. Respawn hoped these changes would help keep the Ranked mode feeling fresh, but players have run into issues on one of the maps for Split 2.

Apex Legends Is a Whole New Game Now

My friends and I return to Apex Legends, after years away, to essentially find a brand new game waiting for us.

Respawn Temporarily Removes Storm Point From Pubs and Ranked in Apex Legends

Specifically, players have encountered crashing problems on Storm Point in Apex Legends. This led Respawn to remove the map from both the Pubs and Ranked rotation on April 3. According to the developer’s response on social media, Storm Point will remain out of the game until a permanent fix for crashing can be discovered. While another update was promised once things have changed, no timetable has been set, leaving it unknown whether the map will return in the remainder of Season 28. In its absence, E-District has been slotted back into the rotation, meaning Olympus is the only different map currently available compared to Split 1.

The community response to this news was understandably mixed. Some players were happy to see the map removed in hopes that the game would be more stable. However, others were disappointed to see mostly the same maps back in rotation as in Split 1. While Storm Point and E-District are both large maps, their layouts are significantly different, offering distinct gameplay scenarios. Furthermore, a few fans wondered why Kings Canyon was passed over for E-District.

While fans wait for Storm Point to return to Apex Legends, Respawn recently kicked off the Aftershock Event. Following the popular Gundam-themed event, it brings changes to the Wildcard Mode in Apex Legends. Specifically, Legends now have a Vortex Shield that lets them catch and throw bullets back at opponents, something that will be familiar to Titanfall 2 fans. In addition to other changes to Wildcard, the event is adding new cosmetics to collect, including the Apex Inferno Prestige Skin for Fuse.

Hopefully, these updates will be able to keep the game feeling fresh for those who still play. While Apex Legends might not be as popular as it once was, the battle royale continues to be one of the most-played games on platforms like Steam. Respawn has already unveiled a detailed roadmap for the year ahead, so there should be more to look forward to for players, besides the eventual return of Storm Point.
