ARC Raiders may ultimately end up getting rid of Expeditions entirely, according to its developers. The reveal may come as a surprise, as it seems to go against what the ARC Raiders team previously had to say about the feature.
ARC Raiders is gearing up for its Frozen Trail update, which will land in early October. At the moment, players also have the option of participating in Expeditions, with the fifth Expedition wrapping up later in September. However, it’s now unclear if that will be the last opportunity players get to do so.
ARC Raiders’ Fifth Expedition Could End Up Being Its Very Last
Now, the Executive Producer of ARC Raiders has stated that Expeditions may be scrapped entirely. The reveal came by way of PCGamesN from a conversation held at Gamescom. Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal touched on Expeditions and how the system needed improvements, with the intent of making “significant changes” to Expeditions. However, he also added that there’s the chance that the system could be discontinued completely, with the option “on the table.” Grøndal noted that the decision is still up for debate as the team tries to decide the best way forward. Players shouldn’t expect to hear any solid information on Expeditions until Frozen Trail is released, and even then, the developers are undecided, so it could be some time yet.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
Initially, Embark Studios stated that Expeditions in ARC Raiders would be temporarily paused at the end of the fifth Expedition window. The announced plan was that the system would return sometime in early 2027, but judging from this new comment, there is still some internal debate over whether that will actually be the case. With the possibility of the fifth window being the very last, those who want to partake in the perks should strongly consider doing so, especially if they’ve never opted-in before. It remains to be seen if a new wipe system might be implemented in place of Expeditions.
When Embark Studios initially announced that further Expeditions would be placed on hold, it also recommended that fans reach out with any feedback they might have. Considering that the team is still looking for a way forward, players who haven’t shared their thoughts yet still have an opportunity to be heard. While the game is still seeing tens of thousands of players over the course of any given day on Steam, ARC Raiders has fallen considerably from its early concurrent player count peak of nearly half a million concurrent Raiders, and making sure that players feel like they’re being listened to would go a long way to helping to boost its current numbers.
Outside of Expeditions, ARC Raiders fans should still have a good number of things to keep busy with in the near future. The upcoming Frozen Trail update will add new enemies, a new progression system, and the biggest map yet. As the game approaches its one-year anniversary, it only seems appropriate for it to experience major additions and overhauls around the same time. Time will tell if these new additions meet player expectations while the community waits to see whether Expeditions make a comeback or the current system ceases to be entirely.
