A Batman: Arkham Knight player created a PC mod that took Marvel’s iconic hero, Spider-Man, and placed him inside Gotham City in place of Batman. Although this Batman: Arkham Knight mod is freely available, it also comes with some caveats for prospective players to bear in mind.
Originally released in June 2015, Batman: Arkham Knight is the final mainline entry in DC and Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series. Taking place following the events of Arkham City, several of Batman’s enemies have joined forces in Joker’s absence to rid Gotham City of The Dark Knight. The titular Arkham Knight is one such foe, having taken over a militia group that has occupied several parts of the city. Although Batman: Arkham Knight received plenty of praise at launch, the PC port was initially marred by bugs that caused problems for some users.
New Batman: Arkham Knight Mod Lets Players Explore Gotham as Spider-Man
Given that both Batman and Spider-Man are two of the most iconic superheroes in pop culture, one PC modder created a way for the latter to explore the world of the former. The ArkWeb mod for Batman: Arkham Knight, created by luki-1, allows players to don the mantle of Spider-Man and explore Gotham City. Rather than having Batman’s tools at his disposal, Spider-Man’s iconic toolkit, such as his webs, will be available instead. The mod maker posted a short YouTube video that demonstrated the ArkWeb mod in action, with Spider-Man swinging through the city’s dark streets and skyscrapers. The ArkWeb mod is available on GitHub.
However, getting the mod to run in Batman: Arkham Knight has a few prerequisites to consider. Both Arkham Knight and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered must be installed on the same PC, with the latter title running in the background. Running the Steam port of Spider-Man Remastered requires a six-core CPU and a graphics card such as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or newer. Additionally, the mod is considered an experimental project, as Spider-Man can clip through some of the unloaded environmental textures when swinging on his web. Additionally, Spider-Man’s moves will be replaced by Batman’s during a fight. Given that the Batman: Arkham series loosely inspired the combat system used in Marvel’s Spider-Man, players should not have too many issues adjusting their fighting styles accordingly.
Although both Batman: Arkham Knight and Marvel’s Spider-Man have some gameplay elements in common, the future of both franchises have taken different paths. Following the release of Arkham Knight, Rocksteady released a sequel in February 2024 titled Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However, the game failed to live up to the studio’s expectations, with support ending in January 2025 after a final update was released. Although Warner Bros. and Meta initially considered a VR-exclusive sequel to Batman: Arkham Shadow, the project was reportedly canceled. Ergo, the future of the Batman: Arkham franchise remains up in the air.
As for Marvel’s Spider-Man, developer Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Wolverine in September. Additionally, a third Spider-Man title is reportedly in development, though neither Sony nor Insomniac have publically commented on the project. It remains to be seen when the web-slinging hero will return to the spotlight.
