The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced worldwide showcase has come and gone, confirming many of the rumors and leaks that took place beforehand. In some cases, it proved those rumors wrong. In others, it skipped over just enough detail to keep fans hooked for more of the marketing. One Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced rumor that was somewhat glossed over during this showcase is the fate of the modern day.
As attentive fans know, the upcoming remake has been rumored to drop the modern-day storyline of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag for months now. The Showcase outright confirmed many leaks, like the Edward Kenway statue, while it denied many others—like RPG changes in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. It’s surprising, then, that the Showcase touches on the modern-day changes quickly and moves on, but Ubisoft did confirm its ultimate fate to GameRant.
The Perfect Pirate Game to Tide You Over Until Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced’s Release Just Dropped
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced may be real, but it’s not here yet, meaning there’s plenty of time to check out the recently release Windrose.
The Original Modern Day Is Not Playable in AC Black Flag Resynced
In short, the rumors are true: The original modern-day segments are not playable in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. When the devs did briefly discuss them, namely original creative director Jean Guesdon and Resynced creative director Paul Fu, they discussed how the modern-day segment served as a transition from Desmond Miles at the time. That’s no longer needed in the year 2026, when Desmond Miles’ fate has continuously been touched on and explored. Meanwhile, they discuss some content like the Animus Hub’s Rifts having a role in the game, but do not expand on that.
In other words, there will be new content related to the modern-day aspect of the current Assassin’s Creed storyline, but the original modern-day is not available in Resynced. That may, to a degree, undercut the Sage storyline tied to AC4: Black Flag, where the modern-day character John Standish is a Sage much like the pirate Bartholomew Roberts, but this may be conveyed another way. The good news, of course, is that the original Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains available on markets, alongside Resynced. Resynced will not replace it, and it has aged reasonably well—just enough degradation, for lack of a better term, where the remake is warranted.
Desmond Miles’ son, Elijah, appears as a Sage in the Assassin’s Creed comics.
Although rumors and leaks make the AC Black Flag remake hype train seem longer than it actually is, the worldwide reveal showcase was the first major stop on the road to release. Fans can expect to delve back into the Caribbean on July 9, 2026, not even three full months as of this writing. That means fans can expect Ubisoft to reveal more details about the upcoming remake, but if nothing else, it seems that Ubisoft got the messaging right out of the gate for this one.

No doubt, some fans are going to be upset over the removal of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag‘s modern-day storyline. No doubt, some fans are not going to be happy with all the changes coming in the remake. But it was clearly treated with care and respect, and what can be asked of Edward Kenway’s legacy more than that?
