Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Trailer Leaks, And It’s Looking Good

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Trailer Leaks, And It’s Looking Good

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was supposed to be officially revealed on April 23 at noon ET. This date was revealed by Ubisoft yesterday in a short video, opening with the gag, “Gaming’s worst kept secret.” Well, in true Ubisoft style, that was always going to be a rake to step on, and the trailer has already leaked with ten seconds of footage uploaded to X.

Kotaku brought you the scoop that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was being remade as long ago as 2023, and ever since the project has been leakier than any of the pirate ships it features. The publisher only formerly acknowledged the game’s existence last month, hence Ubi’s knowing joke in the seven-second teaser.

We know you know, but how about we tell you some more now? Tune in for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s Worldwide Reveal Showcase on April 23rd at 4PM UTC – 6PM CEST – 9AM PDT. https://t.co/Xi26YcN2AI pic.twitter.com/L4ogAy9DUZ

X user @intercelluar asked on their account last night, “are there any public screenshots / a trailer of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced out there?” Then 12 minutes later followed this up with, “like this trailer,” and a screenshot showing a still from a 1:08 video along with a couple of screenshots. Copiously nagged to reveal all, the anonymous account instead responded with a 10-second clip and the note, “here’s a piece, wont post more sorry.” And here it is:

You might wonder why Ubisoft hasn’t DMCAd this from the face of the internet, but the floundering publisher either already fired everyone who would make that call, or perhaps just has the sense to recognize excellent marketing when it sees it. Because damn, this looks really good, and I’ve gone from aiming to remember to check the trailer at some point to being genuinely interested in tuning in for the reveal.

“Resynced” could have meant any number of things, but this is looking like a top-down remake of the 2013 piracy-themed entry in the infinite franchise. It’s often considered the best of the 14 mainline entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, in large part because of its oceanic adventures, and seeing it receiving such a thorough overhaul and looking as pretty as last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is going to make a lot of people very happy.

Who knows if the rest of the trailer will appear ahead of Thursday’s intended reveal, or whether Ubisoft might just bring it forward to prevent that, but it’s hard to see how this leak can have hurt the publisher—it’s giving us cause to write positive coverage of a company that has done little to merit that so far in 2026.
