Most of the Avatar: The Last Airbender news this past month has been about the upcoming animated movie being leaked all over the internet six months ahead of its release, but there’s a lot happening in the world of Aang and Korra besides controversy. The series is also getting a 2D fighter called Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and it features characters from both the original series and The Legend of Korra. One of them is Sokka, who is not an element-manipulating bender like others in the cast, but he can still hold his own through his devotion to his girlfriend Suki, which strengthens him.
At the LVL UP Expo this weekend, competitive fighters Diaphone and Justin Wong helped showcase Sokka’s kit during a live stream. You can check out the VOD below courtesy of Avataryaya on YouTube for the full 30+ minute showcase. Sokka doesn’t have powers like other characters, but he wields a club and boomerang, and looks like a pretty effective rushdown fighter. His kit reminds me a lot of Junpei’s from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, who I loved playing as, so I think I could get a handle on his fighting style pretty quickly.
Like Junpei, Sokka is also a wife guy, and he takes this a step further because he has an install (a powered-up state) that triggers a quick scene of Suki giving him a kiss, and then when he’s in this lovestruck mode, he’s covered in hearts and his speed increases. Sokka’s already pretty speedy, and the power of love turns him into an unstoppable force. See, this is what happens when you love your wife, my dude. You, too, can become harder, better, faster, and stronger.
