Baldur’s Gate 3 Cinematic Director Joins Witcher 4 Development

Baldur’s Gate 3 Cinematic Director Joins Witcher 4 Development

The Witcher 4 has added Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Felix Pedulla to its development team. Pedulla worked as a Senior Cinematic Artist on Baldur’s Gate 3 and will now be utilizing his talents to bring The Witcher 4 to life. His addition comes at a crucial time for CD Projekt RED’s next title, which appears to be ramping up production significantly.

The Witcher 4 has been in the works for a few years now. Official mention of its development initially appeared back in 2022, with the first trailer released alongside its announcement at The Game Awards in December 2024. Despite this, The Witcher 4 only entered full-scale production in late 2024, meaning that it could still be a long time yet before players get their hands on the game. However, in the meantime, CD Projekt RED appears to be assembling a team comprised of the best in the business as it attempts to live up to the high standards set in 2015’s The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 Saved a Horror Game That’s Now Extremely Popular

Developer reveals that a critically acclaimed horror title with over 25 million sales wouldn’t have been made if not for CDPR’s The Witcher 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Senior Cinematic Artist is Bringing His Talents to The Witcher 4

Over on LinkedIn, former Senior Cinematic Artist on Baldur’s Gate 3, Felix Pedulla, revealed that he has taken on a role as Senior Cinematic Designer at CD Projekt RED following six years at Larian Studios. And while his new studio is hard at work on both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 at the moment, he claims that it’s time “to trade in my Baldur’s Gate dice for some Polish steel and get to work crafting some epic cutscenes,” as well as using “#Witcher4″ in his post. This would certainly indicate that he’ll be part of The Witcher 4‘s increasing development efforts. He described his new employer as “one of the most ambitious studios in the industry,” a sign of CD Projekt RED’s ambition with its upcoming Witcher sequel.

When one thinks of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s usually the epic narrative, engaging characters, and branching RPG choices that come to mind. But it’s all tied together and made believable by the excellent cutscene work, in which Pedulla, in his role as a Senior Cinematic Artist, will have played a massive role. Pedulla himself says in his LinkedIn post that he and Larian “made some serious magic together,” and it’s impossible to disagree. There’s no doubt that Pedulla will be a great asset in bringing Ciri’s story to life from now until The Witcher 4‘s release, and it will be exciting to see his work when it launches.

From the outside, it almost feels as though CD Projekt RED is assembling something of an RPG dream team for The Witcher 4. Just last month, The Witcher 4 added Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Senior Game Designer to work as a Senior Quest Designer. Of course, new additions are normal as the game ramps up production, but it’s interesting that CD Projekt RED is poaching talent from some of the best role-playing games of the last few years. It makes total sense, though – The Witcher 4 only has ambitions to compete for all the top awards, so it stands to reason that it should hire those with recent experience creating epic RPGs.

The Witcher 4 Expansive World

CD Projekt RED is not expected to make an appearance with The Witcher 4 at the upcoming Game Awards 2025. It’s unclear when gamers can expect to see their next appearance of the RPG, but it was revealed recently that CD Projekt RED is planning to release an entirely new trilogy of Witcher games within a six-year period, starting with The Witcher 4. While this plan seems incredibly ambitious, it would massively contextualize the developer’s recent recruitment drive.
