Baldur’s Gate 3 Pretty Much Has a Scene For Everything, and There’s Proof
The level of choice offered by Baldur’s Gate 3 can lead to many extremely specific and absurd situations, but some of them really stand out.
Baldur’s Gate 3 fan, game designer, and Twitch Streamer, Rudeism, took to Twitter to unveil the finished result of his latest project: a custom Xbox controller in the shape of the Mysterious Artefact, the twenty-sided object at the heart of Baldur’s Gate 3. This fully functional Mysterious Artefact controller was 3D printed and built by Rudeism himself, and contains 20 buttons and internal motion sensors that take the place of a normal controller’s thumbsticks. The custom Mysterious Artefact controller has received the attention of some involved in the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3, being retweeted by the CEO of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, and Halsin’s voice actor, Dave Jones.
As per creator Rudeism, he originally intended to have the Baldur’s Gate 3 controller finished within a week of its inception, in time for the Game Awards, which took place in December 2023. However, the Mysterious Artefact controller ended up being a much more complex build than anticipated, taking 5 months in total to complete. Baldur’s Gate 3 ended up taking home the coveted Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2023, as well as multiple other awards.

But Rudeism is no stranger to building custom controllers. His Twitch bio mentions having made functional controllers out of all sorts of unorthodox objects, from bananas and baguettes to tractors. One of his most recent builds was a frying pan, inspired by the upcoming game Artic Eggs. He concedes that the Mysterious Artefact controller is “… not the most ergonomic controller I’ve ever made…”.
While the Mysterious Artefact controller is fully functional, it has yet to prove itself in-game. A full test of the Mysterious Artefact controller’s functionality is taking place on May 11, 2024 via livestream on Rudeism’s Twitch, when he will attempt to use the controller to play Baldur’s Gate 3.
