Battlefield 1 Gets Big Player Count Spike on Steam

Battlefield 1 has recently seen a significant increase in the number of players on Steam. This year marks 10 years since the release of this first-person shooter, which is also the 15th game in the extensive franchise that has spawned as many as 18 military-themed titles. What set Battlefield 1 apart from other installments was that it was set during World War I, featuring six different campaigns that covered the events of the Western Front, the Gallipoli campaign, and the Arab Revolt. In addition to exploring a variety of War Stories in single-player mode, players can also opt for multiplayer gameplay, which is characterized by massive-scale ground battles and intense aerial combat.

When Battlefield 1 was released in October 2016, it received positive reviews from both players and critics, who viewed it as an improvement over its predecessors, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline. The single-player campaign was praised mainly for its varied settings and level design, while the multiplayer garnered positive reviews for the new game mode, Operations, as well as the mechanics associated with it. The game’s positive reception among the gaming community translated into commercial success, as Battlefield 1 doubled the sales of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline during its launch week and also became the top-selling game in the US in the month of its release. Within a year and a half of its launch, this title was estimated to have sold a total of 15 million copies worldwide, continuing to attract new players in the years that followed.

Battlefield 6 is Going Free to Play For a Limited Time

Gamers will soon be able to play Battlefield 6 free of charge, but only for a very limited time.

Battlefield 1 Sees Big Player Count Spike on Steam

Although more than a decade has passed since the global release of Battlefield 1, recent evidence suggests that players haven’t forgotten about this war shooter. On the subreddit dedicated to the Battlefield series, a user named current-seven shared a screenshot showing a sudden spike in the number of Battlefield 1 players on Steam. According to data obtained from the Steam Charts website, more than 14,000 people were playing the game in the hour before the screenshot was taken, while the 24-hour peak saw nearly 20,000 active players. The reason for the surge in interest in this game is likely the ongoing Steam sale, which has reduced its price by 95 percent, making it available to players for $1.99 until March 19.

In the discussion sparked by the post, fans of the series were impressed by the score Battlefield 1 received years later, while also reminiscing about their own experiences with it. Most users praised the title for its atmosphere, sound design, and compelling stories, calling it one of the best games set during World War I. Some people also expressed the opinion that Battlefield 1 was the best installment in the entire franchise, which, after its success, began to stray from the features that players enjoyed. Other players also noted the great deal offered by the promotion, which allowed them to purchase not only the base game but also four themed expansion packs featuring new multiplayer maps and new weapons, which were included in the Battlefield 1 Revolution package.

Despite the passage of time, Battlefield 1 is still regarded by members of the gaming community as a standout among the other games in the Battlefield series, attracting longtime fans looking to relive their memories, as well as newcomers who seek solid gameplay and a compelling story. And large-scale promotions like this one help keep players interested in the game, even as newer installments in the franchise are released. Given that in previous years, Battlefield 1 received updates on its anniversary to enhance the player experience –such as the introduction of an anti-cheat system on its eighth anniversary – it will be interesting to see whether the developers have something even bigger in store than the March promotion.
