Battlefield 6 producer Phil Girette has revealed that Battlefield Studios has taken steps to avoid any future delays to upcoming content. These comments come as the developer releases Season 2 of Battlefield 6, which was initially delayed from a planned January release to mid-February 2026.
Battlefield 6 has adopted a seasonal content model, like many live service games at the moment. This means a constant stream of free content released post-launch, designed to keep players engaged over a long period of time. With new live service games dropping all the time, competition for players’ attention is fierce, making it even more important that this new content arrives on time. For Battlefield 6, delaying Season 2 by a month was a decision that, in this environment, could have consequences for the game, which can already be seen in the declining player count numbers.
Disappointed in Battlefield 6? Then It May Be Time to Try This Free-to-Play FPS
Battlefield 6 has been struggling to maintain its launch hype, and this free-to-play shooter is a surprisingly solid competitor for lapsed BF6 fans.
Battlefield 6 Is Taking Steps in All Departments to Prevent Future Delays
Speaking to GameReactor, Battlefield 6 producer Phil Girette commented on the steps taken to prevent future delays like what happened in Season 2. He started out by addressing exactly why the decision was made to delay Battlefield 6 Season 2 in the first place. “We saw the content we had planned for Season 2 and we wanted just to give that a little bit more time in the oven to polish things and make sure we hit the expectations that players have,” Girette explained. “Obviously, once you plan out seasons, there’s a lot of things that come with that like the marketing work behind it, making sure the timings affect not only the game itself but many, many other things. Future seasons as well. Absolutely, we need to make sure those hit as expected and we have taken quite a lot of different steps in different departments to make sure that the players get the seasons immediately once the season is planned to end.”

How Season 2’s player count will be affected by its delay remains to be seen. Battlefield 6 devs have already spoken about how they’re nervous about the upcoming content drop, and whether it will be enough to draw players back into the game. Still, it’s good that there is already a plan in place to prevent a similar thing from happening with Season 3. Balancing a game on the scale of Battlefield 6 is always going to be a difficult task, especially when it’s trying to appeal to so many different types of players at the same time. Still, the reality of the live service environment is that the content has to arrive at a regular pace, or it risks losing ground to its many competitors.
Battlefield 6 Season 2 launches today, with three major content drops throughout. The first is Extreme Measures, which introduces a new map, Contaminated, along with several new weapons and aerial vehicles. This will be followed by Nightfall on March 17, with Hunter/Prey rounding out Season 2 on April 14. No exact end date for Season 2 has been set at this point, but given the gaps between content, mid-May is a reasonable estimate, assuming there are no further delays.
Hopefully, there is still plenty to come from Battlefield 6 in 2026 beyond Season 2. The game received plenty of praise at launch for its core gameplay, and has been unfortunate to see a drop in player count over the last couple of months. But with a solid content offering throughout the year, Battlefield 6 has the chance to go from strength to strength.
