Battlefield 6 Reveals Changes Coming in Season 2

Battlefield 6 Reveals Changes Coming in Season 2

EA has revealed all the quality of life changes and major updates coming to Battlefield 6 once Season 2 launches later this month. After an initial wave of excitement through various betas and the launch of Battlefield 6, that positive momentum has seemingly come to a halt as EA aims to get things back on track. Various player frustrations and controversies have unfortunately had a negative impact on the player base, though with Season 2 right around the corner, there is optimism that things can turn around.

The wait has been a little longer than initially expected, as Battlefield 6 Season 2 was delayed by EA early in January, extending Season 1 for nearly another month. The extra time is being used to continue to develop and refine the Season 2 content based on community feedback, though it’s currently unknown if some of the bigger player requests, like larger maps, will be applied or if they’ll be able to apply that in seasons down the road. While the actual content of Season 2 isn’t yet known, EA has started revealing the many gameplay changes coming in the next major update.

What to Expect From Battlefield 6 in 2026

Battlefield 6’s first Season may have been a mixed bag, but it’s the game’s 2026 support that will truly determine its fate as a live-service title.

Battlefield 6 Season 2 Updates and Improvements

In a new community update, the Battlefield Comms account posted a lengthy blog post about what sort of significant updates are coming in Season 2. In terms of content, the post confirmed the first map of Season 2 to be Contaminated, which seems to support recent Battlefield 6 leaks centering on Hagental Airbase in Germany. In fact, the new story trailer not only confirms the location, but also hints at a new limited-time game mode that EA says “introduces a new element of tactics in the fight against Pax Armata.” The post goes on to tease more variety coming in the second half of the season with a “high-intensity” map and a limited-time mode that features an underground base covered in darkness.

Season 2 also brings with it key improvements, which EA has detailed, including broader challenge requirements that reduce the emphasis on specific game modes, expanding what counts towards each requirement, such as taking assists into account, while also completely removing some of the more frustrating challenges like using sidearms to earn kills.

The community has previously brought up issues with Battle Pass progression in Battlefield 6, commonly calling it too slow. In response, Season 2’s progression has been retuned to be more rewarding, allowing faster progress through gameplay and weekly challenges. Not only that, Weapon and Career XP earn rates have also been increased for those sticking to REDSEC and Gauntlet modes, helping progression to feel more balanced overall. Not only that, Career and Battle Pass boosters have also been added to some earlier Career ranks.

Following up on a recent Battlefield 6 update, player movement is seeing further tweaks in Season 2. Soldier movement has been improved to feel more “predictable and readable” during combat, including acceleration curves, smoother vaulting and ladder transitions, and fixes to visual inconsistencies and unexpected traversal behaviors.

Lastly, EA has also highlighted further improvements to weapon recoil compensation, while automatic weapons have also had a broad tuning pass to ensure they feel distinct in their specific roles. Audio effects have also been polished by the development team to be clearer and more reliable during matches. Specifically, clearer movement cues, better handling of overlapping sounds, and more dependable playback of important audio during combat.

While all of those items can be expected at the launch of Season 2, EA also gave fans a glimpse into what is still under development at Battlefield Studios. This includes items like netcode, hit registration, the ping system, visibility, and more audio improvements to things like footsteps. Battlefield Labs is also being used to have the community test gameplay changes before they go live, to ensure they’re what players want. The upcoming Contaminated map recently saw a number of playtests, and now the Golmud Railway map is the current focus of testers with reworks planned sometime in a future seasonal update.
