Developer Battlefield Studios has officially delayed the release of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 2 and announced an extension to the shooter’s current season. Battlefield 6 Season 2 will now launch on February 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but the good news is that the studio plans to release a new update on January 20 that will extend Season 1 with new content to tide the community over for the next few weeks.
Battlefield 6 soared to unexpected heights when it first launched back in October, with its Season 1 update aiming to continue that momentum just a few weeks later. The major content update brought plenty for players to check out, including the shooter’s very first Battle Pass, a brand-new map, weapons, and a surprise (albeit heavily leaked) release of a free-to-play Battle Royale title known as Battlefield REDSEC. Unfortunately, with ARC Raiders becoming a smash hit over the last three months and fans being disappointed with post-launch support, Battlefield 6 has lost 85% of its active player base on Steam. Thankfully, Battlefield Studios looks to be committed to the title, as the delay of its second season is to refine the game and the upcoming update based on community feedback.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 2 Delayed to February 17
Although Battlefield Studios hadn’t made the release date for Season 2 official, it was expected to launch later this month, as Season 1 was originally due to end on January 20. However, in a new press release, Battlefield Studios has announced that the first season of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC will now run until the launch of Season 2 on February 17. According to the studio’s statement, the revised launch date is to allow extra time to further develop and refine Season 2 as a result of community feedback.
While fans will now have to wait five more weeks to jump into the game’s second season, Battlefield Studios isn’t leaving players empty-handed. An “extension update” will now launch on January 20, featuring new weekly challenges, a Bonus Path, and a continuation of the Season 1 Battle Pass. The Frostfire Bonus Path will be available from January 27 and gives players the chance to unlock new free and premium customization rewards, including a Weapon Package and a Soldier Skin, as well as XP Boosts, by advancing through the tiers of the Frostfire Bonus Path. Battlefield Studios says the Frostfire Bonus Path can be completed concurrently alongside the Battlefield 6 Season 1 Battle Pass and, unlike previous Bonus Paths, all Bonus Path Points for Frostfire can be earned through Weekly Challenges, as there are no Bonus Challenges associated with the Frostfire Bonus Path.
The studio also notes how there will be Valentine’s Day celebrations on the way, with another set of Daily Login Rewards and several Double XP weekends throughout the update period. Players eager to see new fixes will also be pleased to know that the January 20 update will also include various improvements, but exact details have yet to be shared.
Battlefield Studios also intends to continue supporting Battlefield Labs as a way for the community to preview future game updates once they are in the later stages of development. “Both the Season 1 extension and the use of Battlefield Labs will set the foundation for new and exciting content throughout our live seasons, including what will come in Season 2,” the studio said. Although the specifics of Season 2 are currently unknown, Battlefield Studios says more details will be shared in February, as well as a greater 2026 roadmap for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC in the near future.
