Battlefield 6 Season 3 Revives One of the Franchise’s Biggest Maps

The upcoming Season 3 update for Battlefield 6 is bringing back the fan-favorite Railway to Golmud map, which originally debuted in Battlefield 4. The sprawling Battlefield 6 map features a small village, a train moving around the map, and several upgrades to the original version.

The newest entry in the beloved shooter franchise got off to a hot start after its original debut in October 2025. Battlefield 6 saw a massively successful launch, earning more than $100 million on Steam alone on its launch day and dominating sales charts worldwide. However, the game has struggled with fans in recent months, with the shooter adding only two maps in each season, which have been criticized for a lack of size and variety. Now, Battlefield 6 is hoping to win fans back with the return of one of the franchise’s biggest maps in Season 3.

Battlefield 6 Reveals Details for New Operation Augur Game Mode

Battlefield 6’s new Operation Augur is officially here, and it has the potential to be one of the game’s most exciting modes yet.

Battlefield 6 Makes Big Upgrades to Battlefield 4’s Golmud Railway

Battlefield 6 is officially bringing back the popular Railway to Golmud map with the launch of Season 3, giving fans an early teaser of the upgraded map. Railway to Golmud features a large mountainside village and the surrounding countryside for players to duke it out, confirmed to be “far larger” than any map available at Battlefield 6‘s launch. The airspace of the map has also been expanded significantly from its Battlefield 4 version, allowing for the largest aerial combat zones of any Battlefield 6 map. DICE also confirmed that two Battlefield 4 level artists who worked on the original Golmud Railway assisted with re-imagining the map in Battlefield 6.

DICE’s feature on Railway to Golmud goes in-depth on the different locations around the map and how they have changed since Battlefield 4. The village has been redesigned from the ground up, with a new construction site serving to “counter high-elevation enemies.” The warehouse will receive some upgrades from its Battlefield 4 version, said to be designed around infantry combat and guerrilla warfare in Battlefield 6. The map’s titular railway has also seen some big changes to its functionality, with the train now moving towards the enemy headquarters after being captured.

The return of Railway to Golmud isn’t the only map being added with the release of Battlefield 6‘s Season 3. DICE previously confirmed that the season will also bring back another classic Battlefield map, with Battlefield 3‘s Grand Bazaar being remade into Cairo Bazaar. Season 3 is also making some notable upgrades to Battlefield 6‘s REDSEC game mode, officially adding a Ranked queue and leaderboards to the battle royale. Battlefield 6 Season 3 is currently scheduled to launch on May 12.

The launch of Season 3 comes as Battlefield 6 has already given fans a look ahead at DICE’s plans for the rest of 2026. The Season 4 update in July is set to add another pair of maps to the game with the launch of Tsuru Reef and Wake Island, alongside the long-awaited return of naval warfare to Battlefield 6. DICE also confirmed the Season 5 update will launch sometime in the Fall of 2026, though the studio shared few details about its last season of 2026. Fans should have plenty to be excited about from Battlefield 6, between new maps and returning gameplay staples.
