Battlefield 6 Teases Upcoming Content and Future Updates

EA and Battlefield Studios set fan expectations going forward into Season 2 of Battlefield 6, revealing upcoming content and planned changes coming to the game. After a massive launch last year, Battlefield 6 has seen a declining player count, while also dealing with a number of issues and other frustrations. While the ride hasn’t been smooth, Battlefield Studios continues to push the game forward, with the Season 2 update being a big part of the attempt to turn things around.

While the new content has been a hit with players, the past month has been a bit tougher than expected as the various studios that make up Battlefield Studios were hit with layoffs that were termed as a “realignment.” Reports weren’t able to confirm how many were impacted, but as these teams attempt to turn the game’s fortunes around with new content and updates, losing staff definitely impacts things. Regardless, the wheels continue to turn for Battlefield 6 and the teams behind the game are giving players a preview into what’s on the horizon.

Battlefield 6 confirms plans to make vehicle improvements, admitting that some of them are ‘death traps’ right now.

Battlefield 6 What’s Next Update Details

In a lengthy new community post, the Battlefield 6 team provided a debrief of the current season, while also giving an update on where the game is going. Battlefield 6‘s second season got off to a rocky start, marred by a last-minute delay, though it appears that the longer wait may have been worth it due to the new content and changes it made such as bringing back the dirtbike and little bird chopper. In fact, March 17 saw the arrival of Nightfall which according to Battlefield Studios, brought a darker and more intense atmosphere. Fans have seemingly enjoyed the Hagental Base map, providing “strong feedback” surrounding how it plays and its visual direction. As such, Battlefield 6 is adding the VL-7 Smoke and Night Mode elements to Portal, letting creators experiment with them in custom modes.

Going forward, the Battlefield 6 update gave fans a glimpse into what’s on the horizon, including the Hunter/Prey update arriving on April 14. Confirmed to be the final phase of Season 2, Battlefield Studios teased that the update will introduce a number of improvements to the game, including more tweaks to progression. Battlefield 6 has made multiple changes to its progression over the months, and this upcoming patch intends to continue that trend. Specifically, Mastery XP will be earned through using weapons of vehicles, as well as eliminations. XP Earn rates are seeing an adjustment across multiplayer, while REDSEC will be more rewarding for time spent in matches instead of focusing more on final placement. In addition, Career XP earned in REDSEC will better align with multiplayer while kills and damage done will boost scores by 50%, meaning a higher weapon XP gain.

Speaking of redacted sector, another part of the update touched on the previously announced Solos mode for Battlefield REDSEC. The post recapped the recent Battlefield Labs test that took place in March, highlighting feedback received by testers, including the recon class being heavily picked by solo players thanks to its valuable situational awareness tools like the drones. On the other hand, vehicle feedback was more mixed, with some enjoying the potential for chaos, while others felt using them swung the momentum of the match too heavily. Regardless, Battlefield Studios indicated that these sessions were highly valuable for shaping the mode and it will continue to review and share information as work continues.

The post went into a few more areas of improvement, including the Ping System. Specifically, with the Hunter/Prey update, Battlefield Studios is attempting to improve long-range spotting and ping reliability, with enemy soldiers being prioritized, pings disappearing unexpectedly or lingering much longer than intended, as well as how correctly they register on items like loot in REDSEC. The Gauntlet Mode in REDSEC is also seeing the VL-7 Smoke make a return as a permanent mission modifier, appearing randomly across select combat areas and forcing players to wear gas masks. For better or worse, the Armored Transport, also known as Traverser Mark 2, is coming back to Battle Royale, though its weapons are being removed this time around to keep them a bit more balanced than before.
