Oscar winner, Michael B. Jordan, is reportedly involved in a film adaptation of EA’s longstanding first-person shooter franchise, Battlefield. Since the launch of its most recent entry in the fall of 2025, the Battlefield franchise has seen a strong resurgence in interest and player count, driven by its strong gameplay fundamentals and rich amount of content.
Battlefield’s long and storied history starts in 2002 with the release of Battlefield 1942, a large-scale first-person shooter set during World War II. Since then, the franchise has expanded its large-scale FPS gameplay to time periods such as World War I, the Vietnam War, the year 2142, and multiple modern-day entries. While a staple in the FPS space, Battlefield’s fan reception and sales numbers have fluctuated over the years, with some of its most recent entries, including Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042, receiving lukewarm–if not outright negative–reviews and underperforming sales. Under the late Vince Zampella’s leadership, Battlefield Studios course-corrected the franchise with Battlefield 6, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and still sees healthy player counts well after launch.

Battlefield Movie Has Blockbuster Names Attached to the Production
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Michael B. Jordan is set to produce and potentially star in a film adaptation of Battlefield, with director Christopher McQuarrie, of Mission: Impossible acclaim, set to write, direct, and produce the film. Additionally, Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts has also been reported as a producer of the upcoming film, rounding out the current list of names and entities attached to the project. As of now, Jordan, McQuarrie, and EA have not sold the movie to any particular studio. However, big production companies like Apple and Sony have been pitched, with more studios reportedly being pitched on April 24. The parties involved would like for the film to see a theatrical release, so major streaming studios like Netflix could be factored out going forward.
It is currently unknown when formal talks and bidding for the Battlefield movie will start. However, it will likely come with a high price tag. Actor Michael B. Jordan is currently one of the most popular and recognized actors in Hollywood, most recently winning an Academy Award for his performance in Sinners. At the same time, Christopher McQuarrie has had a hand in directing and writing some of Hollywood’s highest-grossing blockbusters, including Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Top Gun: Maverick. What’s more, with EA holding the license to Battlefield 6 as the highest-selling shooter video game of 2025, it is likely that any studio that would like to work with the Battlefield franchise, Michael B. Jordan, and Christopher McQuarrie will have to pay a hefty fee to do so.
A Battlefield movie seems like a logical move for EA, as the broader gaming industry continues to prioritize bringing as many high-grossing and popular franchises to as much non-gaming media as possible. Battlefield’s next biggest competitor, Call of Duty, also has a movie adaptation in the works at Paramount, while other notable gaming franchises such as Elden Ring, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Death Stranding have movies coming down the pipeline as well. While Battlefield isn’t exactly known for its standout single-player campaign stories, it will be interesting to see how the trio of Jordan, McQuarrie, and EA decides to bring the series’ classic “Battlefield moments” to the big screen.
