Bethesda Isn’t Giving Up On Starfield, New Content Coming

Starfield ain’t dead. Bethesda says that the massive open-world space RPG, which launched in 2023, will get content, including “new stories,” as part of the game’s upcoming Year 3 plans. Bethesda also made it clear that Starfield is an important part of the company and its “future.”

On July 17, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who directed the game, shared a roadmap for the studio in the years ahead. This plan includes remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, as well as confirmation that Fallout 5 is in preproduction. But it also included a small section dedicated to Starfield. If you were hoping for the studio to announce Starfield 2 or some big 2.0 update, well, that didn’t happen. But the original game is getting more DLC and updates next year.

“As we enter Year 3, we’ll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates,” wrote Howard in the update. You can also expect “new Starborn content” in 2027, too. “Starfield remains an important part of our future,” said Bethesda.

The studio also confirmed that the 2023 RPG, which launched on Xbox and PC and was later ported to PS5 earlier this year, has reached over 17 million players who have spent nearly a billion hours playing Starfield.

Howard shared that more than 40 percent of Starfield players have customized the game through fan-created Creations and that the studio will “continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make Starfield their own.”

“Across Bethesda Game Studios, we’re building for the future of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield,” said the studio at the end of the roadmap.

“We’re investing in our technology, bringing teams closer together, supporting our live games, expanding into new forms of entertainment, and developing the next generation of Bethesda RPGs. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead and wanted to share as much as we could today. We can’t thank you enough for all you’ve given to us and these worlds. And we can’t wait to continue them together.”
