Bethesda’s Todd Howard Comments on Starfield Coming to PlayStation 5

Bethesda’s Todd Howard Comments on Starfield Coming to PlayStation 5

Two and a half years after its launch, Starfield will finally be coming to the PlayStation 5 next month, and Todd Howard recently shared his thoughts and feelings about bringing the space-faring RPG to a brand-new console. Starfield has been one of Bethesda’s more divisive games, but its upcoming PS5 launch gives it a second chance in front of a fresh audience.

Rumors about Starfield coming to the PS5 have been circulating for over a year at this point. Starfield‘s PS5 release date is set for April 7, so Sony fans who have been eager to finally play Bethesda’s space adventure won’t have to wait much longer at all. Back in September 2020, Microsoft bought Bethesda, with the deal being finalized in March 2021. This made Starfield a timed Xbox exclusive, but that period is over. It’s a big moment for the sci-fi RPG, and Todd Howard seems to be happy that Starfield is finally making its way to the PS5.

Bethesda’s Todd Howard Says That the Developer Has Always Dreamed of Starfield Eventually Coming to the PS5

Todd Howard recently sat down with IGN to talk about Starfield, Fallout 76, and even briefly The Elder Scrolls 6. Starfield was definitely the star of the interview, though. One of the main topics discussed was Bethesda’s relationship with PlayStation and Sony after being a Microsoft-owned company for several years now. During the interview, Todd Howard said:

We’ve always wanted to do it. I would say that we have a great relationship with PlayStation. We’ve been there for a long time with our games. So, I think with this one, we knew it would be a matter of time. We’ve been working on it for a while, so we still maintained a close relationship. We’re still shipping a lot on PlayStation. People forget with Fallout 76 and its other updates and Skyrim – we had still been doing a lot of PlayStation work, even though Starfield wasn’t there. So we’re just excited to get it out there, to the audience.

So, Starfield on the PS5 seems to have always been part of the game’s future plans. Todd Howard’s comments on still working with PlayStation over the years with other games make that seem quite obvious in hindsight. While there wasn’t really any groundbreaking The Elder Scrolls 6 news revealed in the interview, Starfield‘s post-launch timeline could be a clue as to what to expect from the former’s launch if it first releases as an Xbox exclusive.

Starfield’s Second DLC and Next Major Update Bring More to Players

A PS5 port isn’t the only Starfield news that players have to look forward to, though. An extensive update and new DLC are also coming on April 7. Starfield‘s Terran Armada DLC and Free Lanes update are bringing new content that Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC players will be able to enjoy. The Free Lanes update adds things like new POIs, a Cruise Mode that allows players to fly freely through space, new encounters, improved weapons and ship customization, and even an alien Milliewhale pet for Outposts. The Terran Armada DLC introduces a new story and robot companion named Delta, plus features like the Incursion system, new gear, and additional Outpost decorations.

One of the biggest critiques the game has faced is that some gamers believe Starfield isn’t as good as other Bethesda games when it comes to in-game content that is supposed to make its world more interesting. This is obviously subjective, but Terran Armada and the Free Lanes update could help make the game feel more alive. Starfield‘s first DLC, Shattered Space, also faced similar criticism, so it will be interesting to see how Bethesda has taken this kind of player feedback into consideration when developing Terran Armada and its content.

The Terran Armada DLC will cost $10, but it’s included as a free update for those who already own Starfield‘s Premium Edition.

After long bouts of silence, it’s exciting to finally see what Bethesda has been working on with Starfield updates. Whether one has been with the game since the beginning or has been waiting for the sci-fi adventure to finally make its way to the PS5, April 7 is going to be a big day for the Starfield community.
