Big New Star Wars Game Could Be at The Game Awards, And It’s Not Zero Company or Eclipse

Big New Star Wars Game Could Be at The Game Awards, And It’s Not Zero Company or Eclipse

According to a recent rumor, a new Star Wars game could be announced at The Game Awards this year, and it’s not Star Wars Zero Company or Star Wars Eclipse. The rumor comes from @Kurakasis via a post on XCancel, which was then shared in a post on Reddit by user TomorrowComes33. For now, there is no hint at which Star Wars game it is, only what it is not, and it is as much guarantee that it will appear at The Game Awards 2025 as it is that the rumor is actually true. Nevertheless, any sign that a new Star Wars title could be on the way is enough to stir the excitement of franchise fans and get them anticipating what comes next.

With both Star Wars Zero Company and Star Wars Eclipse out of the picture, per the rumor, that narrows down the announcement to a handful of titles that could do with some sort of announcement to get the hype train rolling. At the moment, those games are Respawn’s third Star Wars Jedi installment, the Knights of the Old Republic remake currently in development by Saber Interactive, and an untitled action-adventure game by Amy Hennig. Based on the timing of the upcoming Game Awards ceremony and the status of these titles, any one of them could receive an announcement. Furthermore, Kurakasis stated that the announcement would happen “very soon” and made no mention of The Game Awards. However, there would be no better time or place for said announcement to be made, so it is expected to happen at the ceremony, should the rumor turn out to be true.

What the Mystery Star Wars Game Could Be

  • Star Wars Jedi 3
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake
  • Amy Hennig’s Untitled Star Wars Game

Why It Could Be Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi 3

If the rumor that a new Star Wars game will be announced very soon does end up true, the most likely candidate is the third installment in Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi series. It was confirmed to be in development during Electronic Arts’ Investor Day presentation on September 17, 2024, and enough time has passed since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that an early tease of the third entry wouldn’t be surprising. A short cinematic or a title reveal would be more than enough to at least announce a release window, especially since the series has become one of the most consistently successful Star Wars gaming projects in recent years.

It’s worth noting that there were 4 years between the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, and if that holds up for the next entry, it won’t arrive until at least 2027, as the second installment launched in 2023. That being said, the first teaser for Jedi: Survivor was revealed almost a full year before the game’s release, so it’s possible the third and final installment could get a brief teaser with a potential late 2026 or early 2027 release window announcement at this year’s Game Awards.

Why It Could Be the Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Another frontrunner for the rumored announcement is the Knights of the Old Republic remake. It’s far from a secret now that development of the remake has been arduous and updates have been scarce since its first reveal in 2021. As such, a formal re-reveal of the game is arguably in order, and a fresh trailer would immediately reignite hope that it is, in fact, actually happening as Saber says it is. Given how long the remake has been dormant, any confirmation that it is still moving forward as planned would qualify as a major announcement.

Why It Could Be Amy Hennig’s Untitled Star Wars Game

There is also the untitled action-adventure game from Amy Hennig’s team at Skydance New Media that could receive an announcement at this year’s Game Awards ceremony. So far, nothing has been shown for the game, and projects like it that have long quiet periods sometimes wait for high-profile shows like the Game Awards to reveal themselves. Because Hennig is widely regarded as one of the most respected creative directors and narrative designers in the gaming industry, her upcoming Star Wars game naturally carries a high level of anticipation that would suit a major announcement.

Of course, all of this is pure speculation based on a rumor, so fans should temper their expectations. Rumors like this have been known to be false, especially when it comes to major Game Awards reveals. Even so, the thought that a Star Wars game could be on the horizon is undoubtedly exciting for fans to consider.
