Following major issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s Mars Leaderboard Event at the start of Season 2, Treyarch has announced that the leaderboard rewards will be handed out to all players who log in to the game between now and the start of Season 2 Reloaded. Players do not need to have taken part in the Mars Leaderboard Event to be eligible to receive these rewards, but anyone interested should log in to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 as soon as possible to claim them while they’re still available.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s Mars Leaderboard Event launched at the start of Season 2, and ran until February 9. Players could jump into Mars Survival, where they would be ranked in a leaderboard against 29 other random players across the world based on how many rounds they survived in the Zombies game mode. Players would then earn rewards based on how high they placed on the leaderboards. However, many players ran into issues where their progress was not being tracked correctly, leading to the leaderboards being incorrect. Naturally, it would be pretty unfair to hand out rewards based on broken leaderboards, and Treyarch has moved quickly to address the issue.
“Not Them Flexing” Call of Duty Fans Think Black Ops 7 Is Mocking Battlefield 6
Call of Duty fans believe Black Ops 7 is mocking its biggest competitor, Battlefield 6, after the EA-published shooter revealed its Season 2 roadmap.
Broken Mars Leaderboard Event Leads to Free In-Game Items For Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Players
In a statement on X, Treyarch claimed it is “making it right,” in regards to the broken Mars Leaderboard Event. So that no player misses out on any of the rewards unfairly, the developer is handing out all five leaderboard rewards from the event: the “Mars” animated camo, the “Planet Flamingo” camo, the “Feathered Idol” Kogot-7 Weapon Blueprint, the “Ornamental” weapon charm, and the “Bird Brain” emblem. This set of rewards can be claimed free of charge by all players who log in to the game prior to the launch of Season 2 Reloaded. This extends these rewards right until the end of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 2. Right now, there is no confirmed start date for Season 2 Reloaded, although it’s expected to be some time around the start of March. This is a fairly long time to claim these items, but gamers who particularly want them should make sure they hop in and grab them while they’re available.

- “Mars” Animated Camo
- “Planet Flamingo” Camo
- “Feathered Idol” Kogot-7 Weapon Blueprint
- “Ornamental” Weapon Charm
- “Bird Brain” Emblem
Much of the response on X to Treyarch’s decision was focused on negativity towards Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 leaderboard events in general. One user described them as “unfair and stressful,” claiming that they reward players who have more time to play the game than others. A number of others shared the sentiment that leaderboard events should be scrapped altogether, with some suggestion that they should be changed into XP events going forward.
It feels as though the post-launch content is helping Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to something of a mid-lifespan resurgence. Reception to much of Treyarch and Raven Software’s efforts after launch has been very positive, even though Black Ops 7 is the worst-performing game in the series since 2008. However, with months of content still to come before the presumed 2026 Call of Duty release, there is still an opportunity for the game to finish on a high note and build excitement for the franchise’s future.
