A new leak has revealed the keyart for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone‘s big Season 2 Reloaded update, which is expected to arrive for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC in the coming weeks. While the shooter’s mid-season update will bring plenty of content to both Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone, it is the addition of a new Blackout-inspired game mode that fans appear to be mostly excited for. Official details on the mode’s return remain scarce, but today’s leak has given fans a look at what’s to come.
Prior to Activision finding massive success with Call of Duty: Warzone, which now joins the likes of Apex Legends, Fortnite, and PUBG as one of the best Battle Royale titles to date, the studio took a swing at the genre with Black Ops 4’s Blackout game mode. Call of Duty‘s very first Battle Royale mode replaced the traditional single-player experience when it released in 2018. Although that sparked controversy among those who were looking to continue the Black Ops story with a new Campaign, Blackout did become widely loved by most Call of Duty players. While servers still remain operational, newer releases have caused Blackout‘s player count to decline.

Call of Duty’s Season 2 Reloaded Key Art Has Been Leaked
With Warzone taking over in 2020, just months after Infinity Ward rebooted the Modern Warfare series, official support for Blackout came to an end. However, those who were more fond of Blackout than Warzone will be pleased to know that the mode is making its return in Call of Duty‘s mid-season update. Very little has been said by publisher Activision on Blackout‘s return to Warzone, aside from it being a brand-new Battle Royale experience featuring the Avalon map. With the mode set to arrive in Season 2 Reloaded, a leaked image from PlayStation Game Size has given fans their first sneak peek at the Blackout-inspired mode.
The image doesn’t reveal much, but it does confirm that the Grappling Gun is seemingly making a return, as numerous Operators can be seen holding and using the item in the image. It also once again features the iconic Wingsuit, which will likely be the main way that players deploy into Avalon. Players can already get a taste of this mechanic in Black Ops 7‘s Endgame mode and in Multiplayer, specifically on the large-scale 20v20 mode, Skirmish.
It should be noted that this image hasn’t come directly from Activision, but PlayStation Game Size has become a trusted source when it comes to PlayStation updates, file sizes, and more. The user claims that the upcoming update, which is speculated to arrive in mid-March, has been uploaded to PlayStation’s backend, which is how they were able to access and share the new keyart.
Season 2 of Call of Duty kicked off earlier this month, bringing tons of new content to Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. Developer Treyarch Studios once again provided players with plenty of new maps to check out, and some iconic remasters. Black Ops 2‘s beloved Slums map made a comeback with the new season, and there’s still more on the way, as the studio has confirmed that Cliff Town, Grind, and Firing Range will all be added to Black Ops 7 as part of Season 2 Reloaded next month. As for Warzone fans, the mid-season update will, of course, be adding the new Blackout–inspired mode, while Zombies players have a new round-based map to look forward to, known as Paradox Junction.
Black Ops 7 has been all about the nostalgia since its release, with Treyarch bringing back multiple maps from past installments and even Safeguard, a game mode that hasn’t been seen in a Call of Duty game since 2018. Given that the theme of Black Ops 7 appears to be nostalgia, it’s no surprise that Activision is bringing Blackout back during the game’s life cycle. The real question is whether or not it can bring players back to the shooter after a rough few months.
