Blindspot Debuts to Mixed Reviews on Steam

PUBG‘s latest spin-off, Blindspot, has debuted to mixed reviews on Steam, with hundreds of negative ratings appearing shortly after its release. The free-to-play 5v5 tactical shooter features a top-down camera angle and initially received praise from critics for offering a fresh take on the genre. However, recent user reviews indicate many players are disappointed with the gameplay and visuals found in PUBG: Blindspot.

For those wondering, Blindspot is indeed connected to Krafton’s PUBG: Battlegrounds in terms of lore. Production director Seungmyeong Yang shared that “Blindspot‘s setting is based on a dystopian future slightly ahead of PUBG: Battlegrounds.” The gunplay also shares similar mechanics, as PUBG Studios was directly involved in development. Despite these connections and shared features, Blindspot has struggled to draw the same audience as PUBG: Battlegrounds, and user feedback has been largely negative.

PUBG: Battlegrounds Releases Huge New Update for February 2026

The latest update to the popular battle royale from PUBG Studios returns the game’s world to its status quo, with a few lingering exceptions.

Fans Think PUBG: Blindspot Is a ‘Poorly Executed’ Idea

Released in Early Access on February 5, PUBG: Blindspot has received mixed reviews on Steam, with over 30% of ratings negative so far. Additionally, the concurrent player count has been low, especially given Blindspot‘s connection to the popular PUBG franchise. SteamDB data from February 9 shows the game peaked at just over 3,000 concurrent users, while Krafton’s flagship PUBG: Battlegrounds typically reaches more than 600,000 concurrent players on Steam daily.

Reasons Behind PUBG: Blindspot’s Negative Reviews

  • Unintuitive controls
  • Uninspired gameplay loop
  • Matchmaking and server issues

A look at PUBG: Blindspot‘s Steam reviews reveals a clear pattern: most dissatisfied players complain about the game’s controls or compare it to Rainbow Six Siege, calling it a cheap imitation. One user criticized the controls, saying, “They are weird as hell regardless of the control scheme.” Another added, “It’s an absolute [Rainbow Six Siege] clone; the characters are the same, the gadgets are the same, the actions are the same.”

Many players find shooting from certain angles awkward. For example, hitting a crouched enemy requires holding the CTRL button, an unintuitive mechanic that can take time to get used to. The gameplay loop closely mirrors games like Rainbow Six Siege, but from a top-down perspective. Critics argue the game lacks creativity, with the only interesting feature being the “shared vision” that allows all party members to see what others see.

Blindspot has also faced accusations of using AI, particularly in creating agents. However, the game’s Steam page makes no mention of artificial intelligence being involved in the development.

Another criticism is the lack of Oceania servers, which has reportedly led to connection problems for players in regions like Australia.

PUBG: Blindspot Has Released Multiple Patches Since Launch

The good news for fans is that the developer appears committed to addressing many of the issues players have raised. While major changes to core mechanics like aiming seem unlikely, some aspects could be made more intuitive based on player feedback. So far, the team has released four patches and hotfixes, primarily targeting matchmaking problems. Whether future updates can win players over and improve the game’s Steam rating remains to be seen.

It’s important to remember that PUBG: Blindspot is currently in Early Access on Steam. Developers ARC Team and PUBG Studios have been clear that this phase is meant to gather feedback and refine both gameplay and visuals.

The Future of PUBG Spin-Offs and Fan Concerns

The rocky launch of PUBG: Blindspot has left some fans concerned about Krafton’s other PUBG-related project, Black Budget. Developed by PUBG Studios, Black Budget is an upcoming extraction shooter that has been highly anticipated by FPS fans. Players now hope this title avoids the same issues as Blindspot and lives up to the community’s expectations.

PUBG: Black Budget does not have a confirmed release date. However, it has undergone several closed alpha tests, the most recent of which concluded on December 22, 2025.
