While The Blood of Dawnwalker has been well received by both critics and players, the game unfortunately has some performance-related issues on PC, with developer Rebel Wolves offering workarounds for those impacted on PC. As the first game for developer Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker has seen a well received launch, with positive reviews from critics and positive word of mouth from players.
However, it hasn’t always been a smooth ride, as many questioned the core mechanic surrounding the game. The protagonist’s family has been captured by the area’s ruling Vampire leaders, giving Coen, and by extension, players, only 30 days and 30 nights to rescue them. While the game doesn’t end if Coen’s family dies, The Blood of Dawnwalker forces players to make meaningful decisions while playing, as missions, activities, and other actions will continue to push time forward. This mechanic has left some players conflicted as it runs counter to typical open-world RPGs that encourage exploration and completing everything.
The Blood of Dawnwalker PC Performance Workarounds
There have been some PC players who have run into problems with the game in what seems to be a rising trend, as there are now countless examples of PC games launching with performance issues. The Blood of Dawnwalker is the latest game to join that list, which has resulted in the game’s Steam rating fluctuating a bit. PC players have reported optimization related issues like the framerate stuttering despite meeting the game’s recommended settings. Others remain annoyed about a lack of HDR support and lower frame rates.

While some fans have put out potential performance optimizations for Dawn of Bloodwalker‘s PC version, Rebel Wolves addressed the issues directly on social media. Highlighting known issues, the studio offered some workarounds for many of the problems, such as launching the game in Full Screen mode for those seeing stuttering when using Windowed or Borderless options. If the game is crashing during the compiling stage, Rebel Wolves recommends updating the PC BIOS, which it claims should fix the issue. The studio is also working on a fix to allow players the ability to remap buttons when using a PS5 gamepad, though for players who want to fix a sprinting bug, they recommend changing the controller sensitivity settings from 1.0 to 0.8.
While Rebel Wolves works on an official update for these performance problems, the studio has already started releasing patches for the game to address some of these problems. Version 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 were released just days after the game launched in full, representing smaller hotfixes addressing issues like quests not progressing as they should, PS5 DualSense support for PC players, as well as further improvements to controller dead zone and input.
This isn’t the first performance-related controversy that The Blood of Dawnwalker has been embroiled in. Prior to launch, it was confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker would only launch with two modes, a 30FPS Quality Mode and 40FPS Performance Mode. Naturally, fans were disappointed at a lack of true 60FPS support, especially for those with higher-end hardware on PC or PS5 Pro. As it turns out, Rebel Wolves responded to the feedback and announced a last-minute chance for launch, confirming that The Blood of Dawnwalker would launch with a 60FPS performance mode option within the Day 1 update.
