Borderlands 4 Players Are Upset About Loot Drop Changes

Borderlands 4 Players Are Upset About Loot Drop Changes

The well-received Seasons Lootings event for Borderlands 4 has officially come to an end, frustrating players who enjoyed the higher than expected drop rates on certain weapons. It was an eventful 2025 for Borderlands 4, after an anticipated build up for its September launch, which was quickly met with a number of major controversies. Still, Gearbox has a lot planned for its game in 2026, but the new year has seemingly started on a sour note with another issue leading to player frustrations.

Despite a launch that was described as “softer than expected” by parent company Take-Two, Gearbox continues to tweak its looter-shooter through updates, events, and new content. The ride hasn’t always been smooth, as Borderlands 4 has seen plenty of controversies in the past few months, from various comments made by CEO Randy Pitchford, to a messy launch on PC, to in-game events like the Horrors of Kairos event not living up to player expectations. Unfortunately, Borderlands 4 has found itself mired in another controversy with a frustrated fan base.

Borderlands 4 Post-Launch Content Announcement is Good News for Fans

Gearbox Software confirms a new Borderlands 4 post-launch content detail for those surprised by Bounty Pack 1 Being released for free.

Borderlands 4 Seasons Lootings Event Has Ended, Including the Higher Drop Rates

The latest Borderlands 4 controversy hit alongside its January 8 minor update, which was primarily just the game’s normal weekly reset. However, over the holiday season and in celebration of the launch of Borderlands 4‘s How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, Gearbox kicked off a special “Season’s Lootings” modifier, significantly increasing legendary drop rates. At the time, it wasn’t known how long this modifier would stick around, prompting a fan to see if the drop rates were still active now that the studio was back from its holiday break.

Unfortunately, the seasonal event has come to an end, with the official Gearbox Software account replying that the drop rates have returned to the pre-holiday percentages. However, the account did indicate that the studio was well aware of the event’s reception with fans and is currently investigating a longer-term increase. As of now, there’s no timeframe for a fix, but the studio is aware, so hopefully the team is able to quickly apply the change.

Still, the news didn’t sit well with players, as many began questioning why the studio would remove something that fans actively enjoyed. Some even swore off playing until the rates were restored, while others were confused about why there was a need to even investigate, since the solution is already known. There were even a few who continued to bring up the lack of a true New Game+ for Borderlands 4‘s endgame and the rate changes hurting the game’s overall gameplay loop.

Drop rates in the Borderlands series are always a hot topic with players, moreso in the current game with its ability to drop weapons with different parts. Not only that, Gearbox doesn’t share the actual drop rate percentages of weapons, though fans think they’ve figured out the rate for Borderlands 4 legendary weapons and if the data is correct, they’re a lot lower than expected. Finding “God Roll” gear is part of the appeal for loot games like Borderlands 4, which makes special events like Seasons Lootings all the more sought after as it potentially eases the search for top-notch gear.

Despite the current negativity, Borderlands 4 will be seeing quite the influx of content in 2026, headlined by the new Vault Hunter C4SH. More Bounty Packs are also being added as well as the highly anticipated arrival of Pearlescent loot rarity into Borderlands 4 in the months to come.
