Borderlands 4 has been looking for new ways to bring players back to the looter shooter throughout 2026, with Gearbox continuing to expand the game beyond its original launch content as the first step, and Shift Codes are a constant invitation, too. The post-launch plans have now reached another major stage, giving players more characters, locations, missions, and loot to chase. For Borderlands 4, the latest Shift Code also arrives at a point when the game is seeing more activity from players.
A big part of that has been Loveless, the newest Vault Hunter added to Borderlands 4 alongside Story Pack 2. Released on September 10, Loveless is a new playable character built around cybernetics and a digital virus capable of taking physical Wyrm form. Story Pack 2 also added Providence, a new tropical area with its own story missions, side missions, activities, collectibles, and Tediore enemies. The combination gave returning Borderlands 4 players a substantial new batch of content to work through.

To tackle that new content, Borderlands 4 players are going to need guns, lots of guns, and the new Shift Code gives them access to a new handful of loot. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has officially shared a new Shift code for 3 Golden Keys: 39FJ3-CTJTK-CXTBC-JTJ3T-W95RK. The code can be redeemed through the Shift menu in Borderlands 4 or through Gearbox’s Shift website, and it expires on October 6, 2026. Golden Keys can be used to open Borderlands 4‘s Golden Chest, providing randomized gear based on a player’s current progression.

The timing gives the Borderlands 4 Shift Code freebie some added relevance because Loveless has helped drive renewed interest in the game. Around the September 10 release of Story Pack 2, Borderlands 4 reached over 20,000 concurrent players on Steam, its highest peak on the platform since November 2025. That spike also came alongside a free weekend and a 50% discount, so Loveless was not solely responsible for the increase, but the new Vault Hunter arrived as part of a broader push bringing players back to Borderlands 4.

Story Pack 2 gives those returning players more than just Loveless to explore. FL4K and the Last Resort introduces Providence as a Borderlands 4 location, with additional story content and activities built around the new location. Loveless also gives Borderlands 4 another distinct Vault Hunter to experiment with, while the broader post-launch content provides more reasons to keep progressing characters and collecting new gear. The new Golden Keys fit naturally into that loop, especially for players currently working through the latest content.
For anyone still playing Borderlands 4, the latest Shift code is an easy reward to claim while it remains active. The limited timeframe might drive a little FOMO, especially for anyone still debating checking out Loveless in Borderlands 4.
