Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached another movie milestone, officially claiming Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ 11-year spot as the highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office after a month and two weeks in theaters.
Marvel and Sony’s joint venture has officially hit $937 million in U.S. ticket sales, surpassing The Force Awakens’ $936 million run after it premiered in 2015. With a current worldwide gross of over $2.4 billion, the fourth film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker is currently the third highest-grossing film of all time, just behind the first Avatar film and Avengers: Endgame, which have grossed approximately $2.9 billion and $2.8 billion, respectively. Endgame is about to get a slight boost with the Encore re-release next week on September 25, which will include new footage that will lead into the story of December’s Avengers: Doomsday. We’ll see if Brand New Day manages to overtake it before its theatrical run comes to an end.
Now that the movie’s officially been crowned the highest-grossing movie in American box-office history, Marvel and Sony thanked fans for their support on social media.

Brand New Day premiered on July 31, with some feeling it had claimed the mantle of best Spider-Man movie, while others were less charmed by its various Marvel Cinematic Universe ties after years of franchise fatigue. Although Holland hasn’t been confirmed to appear in Doomsday, Brand New Day’s post-credits scene heavily implies he may show up in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set to premiere in theaters in December of next year.
