Brand-New He-Man Video Game Finally Has a Release Date

Limited Run Games and developer Bitmap Bureau have officially confirmed the release date for the upcoming He-Man beat-em-up, Dragon Pearl of Destruction. The animated series from the 1980s, centered around the adventures of the heroic prince of Eternia, served as one of the most iconic cartoons of the era. The He-Man franchise has been featured in everything from its original line of toys and accompanying comic books to multiple cartoons. Now, He-Man looks to be making a big resurgence with some exciting new things in store.

He-Man may be making a big comeback, with both a film reboot and a video game on the way. Amazon MGM Studios is currently working on Masters of the Universe as a reboot of the classic franchise, with actor Nicholas Galitzine playing the role of Prince Adam. The He-Man franchise is also getting a brand-new video game, with Dragon Pearl of Destruction featuring chaotic, co-op beat-em-up action inspired by classic 1980s and 1990s arcade games. Limited Run Games has now revealed that fans won’t have to wait much longer to dive into the game.

He-Man: Dragon Pearl of Destruction Gets Official Release Date

A brand-new trailer from Limited Run has confirmed the official release date for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction. The game follows a new plot by Skeletor to plunge Eternia into darkness, with players taking control of He-Man and friends to stop the wizard’s evil plot. Players can choose from He-Man, Man-at-Arms, and Teela, while She-Ra is available as an unlockable character. The game’s artstyle is also heavily based on the 1980s cartoon, using the original designs for its many iconic cast members. Dragon Pearl of Destruction is scheduled to release on the official Masters of the Universe Day, April 28, coming to PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.

Beyond the assortment of recognizable playable characters, Dragon Pearl of Destruction contains tons of nods to the animated series. Battle-Cat appears within the game as a mount players can use to their advantage in battle, with 12 different stages featuring some of the most recognizable locations from throughout Eternia. Limited Run and Bitmap Bureau have also teased a variety of villains players will encounter throughout their adventures, with Skeletor joined by classic characters like Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw. The sorceress Shokoti was also confirmed to be making an appearance in Dragon Pearl of Destruction, alongside the menacing Shadow Beasts.

He-Man fans should have plenty of reasons to be excited about the franchise’s newest video game adaptation. Dragon Pearl of Destruction will feature both single-player and two-player local co-op, though online co-op for the game has not been confirmed. The trailer for the beat-em-up also showed even more characters appearing as cameos, including a special attack featuring Orko and Granamyr burning up enemies. Dragon Pearl of Destruction is already available for fans to wishlist on Steam, with a price for the game not stated alongside its release date reveal.

2026 looks to be a big year for the He-Man franchise, between Dragon Pearl of Destruction‘s release and the upcoming reboot. Masters of the Universe is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 5, following Prince Adam’s quest to return to Eternia after being transported to Earth. Alongside Galitzine as He-Man, the cast list for the reboot includes some big names, like Jared Leto portraying the main villain in Skeletor and Camila Mendes playing the role of Teela. He-Man could be in for a major resurgence, both with an homage to the franchise’s roots and a brand-new re-imagined version of the classic heroes.
