Soulslike games are increasingly a dime a dozen, as many games adopt FromSoftware’s signature dark fantasy approach without offering anything particularly unique in the genre, but that cannot be said about the newest Soulslike game on Steam: Stonemachia. Not only does Stonemachia give a unique, inspired spin on the Soulslike genre, but it also does so with aplomb, earning 97% Very Positive reviews from nearly 200 Steam users at launch.

Based on how Steam’s review rating system works, Stonemachia would need to remain nearly as consistent in its reviews and receive 300 more to get to the Overwhelmingly Positive status, as that requires 500 total reviews with a 95% or higher rating. As such, those who play it are encouraged to review it to keep its indie gem-level streak going.

Best Co-Op Games On Steam To Play Right Now

From online multiplayer titles to local masterpieces, Steam has plenty of fantastic co-op games that should be played in 2026.

Stonemachia is a Hidden Soulslike Gem That Should Be on Your Radar

If you haven’t heard of the new Soulslike game Stonemachia, you’d be forgiven—discovery is increasingly difficult in the indie game space, especially in popular genres like this one, and tons of games release on Steam every day. In Stonemachia, players take on the role of Zefiro—a Pawn like in Chess. As they adventure into the world of Medhelan, they’ll be able to adopt new forms and fighting styles to face enemies and bosses. That’s uniquely inspired as players can become a Knight, Rook, Bishop, and Queen. The story is described as a Dantesque Journey (meaning Dante’s Inferno) to face off with armies of angels to make it to paradise, complete with enemies, objects, and so forth, inspired by Italian art and folklore.

It’s worth mentioning that StoneMachia is also a pretty cheap game on Steam, too. At full price, it’ll only set players back $19.99, but there is a launch discount right now, discounting it to $17.99. Overall, it seems like a safe investment for anyone who calls themselves a fan of soulslike games.

It’s also worth looking over the available reviews on Steam, as none of them appear to be the result of bots or anything of that nature. Most have a handful of hours in the game at the time of posting, and many of them praise it. Fineous calls it an indie gem on Steam that is “WAY TOO GOOD” and praised its soulslike nature, soundtrack, and art style, in particular. Raven appears to agree, praising each hit in the game and saying it feels like playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Meanwhile, bluhbluhfish called it “pretty awesome” but did criticize the healing system as it depends on enemies, hitboxes, and parries. Steam user Calico Beard, who claims to play a lot of Soulslike games, said it as “clearly undervalued” because of its low price and praised its immersive worldbuilding, fluid gameplay, level of challenge, and more. They did criticize the camera, but as they note, yes, it’s a common enough issue in Soulslike games.

Overall, the term “indie gem” exists because, all too often, good games get buried by the sheer volume of games on Steam and other storefronts, like diamonds in the rough. Soulslike fans looking for their next Soulslike game on Steam won’t regret checking out Stonemachia.
