Beautiful Light is an upcoming objective-based tactical extraction shooter planned for early access on Steam in December 2026. While the genre may seem oversaturated these days, especially on Steam, Beautiful Light is confident it has created a replayable, enjoyable gameplay loop that sets it apart from most of its peers.

Technically, Beautiful Light is a PvPvPvE game because it pits players against each other and the environment asymmetrically. Players normally enter each map as squads of three, two, or one, facing off against other teams and anomalies, which are hostile, alien-like creatures. However, a group of players can also join the game as one of these creatures and sabotage other players, giving Beautiful Light a twist that few other extraction shooters offer.

Beautiful Light Is Coming to PC Soon

Right after the 2026 Gamescom show, developer Deep Worlds announced on Twitter that the team is trying to finalize the exact release date while factoring in GTA 6‘s imminent launch. However, the official Steam page for Beautiful Light shows that the target release window remains December 2026. Of course, the game will initially enter Steam’s early access program, so the December launch will not mark the full game’s release. But the devs seem confident that the objective-based gameplay loop will keep fans of extraction shooter games engaged without overwhelming them with a constant cycle of looting and server wipes.

The objectives Deep Worlds talks about primarily revolve around mythical objects known as artifacts. It appears that each map will have a limited number of these artifacts, with the main objective for players being to secure and extract them. That said, the developer says these artifacts will have unique properties that can affect gameplay. In other words, it seems that teams holding the artifacts will have some sort of in-game advantage, so other squads will try to hunt them down.

The most interesting gadget in Beautiful Light is the forearm PDA, which is essentially an immersive HUD like Fallout’s Pip-Boy devices.

Beautiful Light‘s gameplay also features many mechanics commonly seen in tactical first-person shooters. For example, players will be able to peek or lean left and right, similar to the ADS mechanics in Rainbow Six Siege. There are also night vision devices, gas masks, and tactical lights that players should use strategically to gain an edge in combat. Beautiful Light isn’t the only game that extraction shooter fans should keep an eye on. A couple of other intriguing titles are also set to release soon. One good example is NightRunner, a co-op PvE game that recently revealed its action-packed gameplay. Fans might also want to check out Anomalith, which is trying to put creative spins on the standard extraction shooter formula. But those who only want to check out Beautiful Light will need to mark December 2026 on their calendars, as that’s hopefully when the game launches its anticipated early-access edition.
