Brand-New Soulslike is Releasing at a Budget Price

Brand-New Soulslike is Releasing at a Budget Price

Developer One More Level has just announced that its upcoming first-person soulslike Valor Mortis will launch with a surprisingly cheap price tag. The standard edition of Valor Mortis will launch on October 13 for just $39.99, though those wanting to support the game further will be able to pick up a more expensive deluxe edition.

Announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Valor Mortis is a first-person soulslike being developed by the same studio behind the Ghostrunner duology. On top of its intriguing twist on soulslike staples, Valor Mortis has turned heads in the gaming industry due to its historical setting, with its story centering around a mysterious weapon that’s resurrecting dead soldiers in the Napoleonic Wars. I recently had around an hour hands-on with Valor Mortis at Gamescom 2026, and it ended up being my favorite game of the entire convention.

Every Free Game Released On The Epic Games Store (September 2026)

Here’s a list of all the games that have been made free on the Epic Games Store. You have until September 24 to get the current free game.

Valor Mortis Will Cost $39.99 At Launch

Ahead of its launch next month, the official Valor Mortis Twitter account has made a statement regarding the game’s price tag. The statement begins with the developers saying that they believe Valor Mortis “has the quality, fidelity, and playtime in its 20-hour story to go toe-to-toe with many ‘full price’ titles,” but as this Fall is such a busy time for video game releases and there’s such a high demand for players’ time and money, the team has decided on a more budget-friendly price tag for its upcoming first-person soulslike experience. Valor Mortis will be $39.99 when it launches on October 13 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The official statement then goes on to seemingly confirm that there will be no digital pre-orders for Valor Mortis. Instead, One More Level wants to “let the completed version of [its] game do the talking.” Would-be players will only be able to buy Valor Mortis when they have a “full picture” of its “quality, creativity, and craft.”

While Valor Mortis will be launching with a lower price tag than many might have expected, those keen on spending a little more are in luck. Valor Mortis will have a Deluxe Edition at launch. This Deluxe Edition will retail for $59.99 and will come with the base game, a Grande Armée Weapon Skin Pack, three yet-unannounced weapon skin packs, and a major story DLC that’s currently set to release in 2027. Developer One More Level will also be releasing free post-launch updates for all versions of Valor Mortis, which will reportedly add “more ways to enjoy” the game in the coming months.

One More Level’s last two games, Ghostrunner and its 2023 sequel, had similar launch prices. When Ghostrunner launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC back in 2020, it came with a $29.99 price tag. The 2023 sequel, on the other hand, launched on the same platforms for $39.99.
