Brand-New Steam Release Throws Helldivers 2, Satisfactory, and Doom in a Blender

Brand-New Steam Release Throws Helldivers 2, Satisfactory, and Doom in a Blender

One of the most promising upcoming Steam titles is Pax Autocratica, a game that mergers a number of genres into one incredibly deep experience. The game places its players into the shoes of an outer space dictator, and through this dictator, players can expect to see plenty of Helldivers-like satire. As Pax Autocratica delivers its Super Earth-like comedy, players will also interact with a camp management element that will see them directing their subjects to automate certain processes, adding a Satisfactory-like gameplay loop to the mix.

However, while this Steam title could have simply put an anti-totalitarian spin on the colony management genre, developer Multiverse takes things to the next level by including another favorite activity of dictators: war. But instead of simply managing troops from a top-down view, which many would assume to be the way a colony management game would handle warfare, Pax Autocratica actually allows players to take part in the battles. Here, an entirely different gameplay experience unfolds, with super fast-paced first-person shooting and projectile dodging reminiscent of Doom’s combat advertised. With the game’s launch just days away, players will soon see if it’s able to stick the landing, but this hodgepodge of genres is undeniably promising on paper.

Steam’s Free Weekend promotion is officially back with a brand-new curated selection of games to play this weekend.

Pax Autocratica’s Colony Management Melds Helldivers Humor with Satisfactory’s Feeling of Progress

Though Pax Autocratica will be letting players have full control over their army, it will still be taking shots at dictators every chance it gets. Multiverse is very open about the game’s satire on its Steam page, with the developer even going so far as to donate a portion of all revenue to humanitarian assistance in all countries impacted by real-world conflict. While the game allows players to punish and brainwash its civilians, and pokes fun at this kind of society, its developer also recognizes that these kinds of things have happened before and are happening right now around the world.

As players expand the reach of their rule, they’ll have more and more people to care for (and to use for expansion). After bending people to their will by either creating a society worth believing in, or by ruling through fear, the dictator can task their people with mining, gathering, and forging gear for their next hostile takeover. With resources, Pax Autocratica players can continue making buildings to create an even more impressive empire. Players will also be able to make and enforce whatever laws they desire, though they’ll have to be careful not to push too hard. If civilians’ morale dips too low, gamers could have a revolt on their hands that they’ll need to shut down. With civilians able to be afraid, loyal, grateful, or rebellious, players will need to constantly watch how their people are responding to their actions.

Pax Autocratica’s FPS Battles Offer Doom Combat with Helldivers’ Chaos

Yet as promising as it looks to manage one’s subjects in Pax Autocratica, what looks even more enjoyable is the ability for players to fight in the wars they ignited with their own actions. After choosing territory to defend or conquer as the dictator, gamers will enter the shoes of a soldier. From here, players enter into a first-person perspective, and it’s here where Doom (and Helldivers) fans will feel more at home. Through battle-specific upgrades to both the player’s weapon and the surrounding army, each fight should feel entirely different from the last.

The fast-paced action shown in these shooting segments may feature soldiers as opposed to demons, but the bright-colored projectiles they fire out certainly resemble those seen in the latest Doom releases. Vehicles are also in play, and using them will result in so many explosions that players may feel like they have just used an Orbital Laser strategem. While players will be dodging bullets, fighting bosses, and encountering different types of basic foes in the large-scale, roguelite battles, they’ll also be able to command their allies mid-fight to focus fire on chosen targets. There’s even an element of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain in play, as players can capture weakened foes and indoctrinate them into being loyal soldiers. Every captured enemy and won battle will allow players to grow their empire, becoming truly unstoppable over time. And with the game set to launch in a matter of days, players can start building their empire very soon.
