Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster Gets Surprise Launch And Discount On PC

Thirteen years ago, the original Bravely Default made its debut on 3DS, and was recently resurrected with Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster last year. The remastered version was a Switch 2-exclusive launch title, but now, Square Enix has shadow-dropped Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game is available on both platforms–and if you’re a Green Man Gaming XP member, you can grab the PC version right now for $32, or 20% off the standard $40 price. GMG XP is GMG’s free rewards membership program, and joining gets you immediate access to this discounted price, as well as other member-exclusive discounts on other games in the retailer’s catalog. Note that purchasing the game via GMG gets you an official key redeemable on Steam.

Like the original 3DS version, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remastered is an homage to classic console RPGs, especially the early Final Fantasy titles–complete with turn-based battles, a deep job system for customizing your party, and an epic high-fantasy storyline. In addition to high-definition graphics, the Flying Fairy HD Remaster features a redesigned user interface, fast-forward cut-scene support, and other networking refinements. Although some of the graphics from the original have been altered for this release, it should still be recognizable to fans of the game.

Players step into the role of Tiz, an inhabitant of Luxendarc and the only survivor of the Great Chasm that claimed his village. This hole in the world is only matched by the hole the tragedy left in Tiz’s heart. To set the world right, Tiz teams up with Agnes, a young vestal who shares his goal of reclaiming the crystals lost to the chasm’s void and closing it for good.

One of the game’s highlights is its unique turn-based battle system. While it’s reminiscent of other classic RPG battle systems, Bravely Default features unique Brave or Default commands, allowing players more control over the flow of encounters. For example, Brave will spend Brave Points (BP) and grant players additional actions they can take in a turn, while Default allows players to stall their turn and bank BP for later. This is compounded by a deep and rewarding job system featuring 20 unique classes to unlock and master, each with its own set of abilities to use in battle.

If you’re a Switch 2 owner, you can still grab Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster for Nintendo’s newest hardware as well. It’s available in Game Key-Card and digital formats for $40 at multiple online retailers.
