Bridge of Spirits is Officially Getting a Sequel and It’s Coming Soon

A sequel to Ember Labs’ Kena: Bridge of Spirits was just announced during the Sony State of Play. This Kena: Bridge of Spirits sequel is officially titled Kena: Scars of Kosmora, and it’s slated for a 2026 release on both PlayStation 5 and PC.

Originally released in September 2021, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a third-person action-adventure game that sees players assume the role of the titular young spirit guide who must use their magical abilities to free trapped souls. Upon its launch, Kena: Bridge of Spirits was met with a largely positive critical reception. Kena currently holds a Top Critic Average of 82 on OpenCritic, with 86% of critics recommending the game. Kena: Bridge of Spirits also received an array of awards following its 2021 launch, including the Best Indie and Best Debut Indie trophies at The Game Awards 2021.

The opening announcement of the February 2026 State of Play, Kena: Scars of Kosmora was unveiled via a two-and-a-half-minute trailer that reintroduced fans to an older Kena, and teased some of the new features in store this time around. In a PlayStation Blog post, Ember Labs co-founder Josh Grier sheds a bit more light on Kena: Scars of Kosmora‘s story. Now as an older and more widely renowned spirit guide, Kena travels to the island of Kosmora in search of answers about her mysterious ailment. Along the way, Kena will be forced to learn the ancient ways of alchemy in order to survive Kosmora’s otherworldly threats.

With a new staff in hand, Kena is able to wield an assortment of elemental abilities. These abilities will play a central role in Kena: Scars of Kosmora‘s gameplay. Along with blasting foes with ice shards and other elemental attacks, players will use Kena’s new affinities to befriend an assortment of elemental spirit companions, such as a grass-covered, fox-like creature that players can use to traverse the island. Players will bond with these creatures throughout the course of the game, and watch them grow into adult beasts that can use special abilities.

Towards the end of the PlayStation Blog post, Grier mentions that partnering with PlayStation this time around “has empowered [the development team] to craft an even larger world – one built with an emphasis on tightly designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure.” While fans will need to wait for Kena: Scars of Kosmora‘s official release before they experience the full scope of the game for themselves, the sequel’s reveal trailer did seemingly tease more in-depth combat mechanics, and hinted at deeper exploration features with its inclusion of a spirit companion mount.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora currently has a general release window of 2026, and it’s unclear when fans will hear about it next. It’s possible that the game could appear in another State of Play later this year, or Ember Labs could reveal more in a future PlayStation Blog post. In the meantime, PlayStation fans have a wealth of new trailers to check out following the February State of Play, including a brand new Castlevania game reveal, an extended trailer for Saros, and the first look at gameplay for Star Wars: Galactic Racer. The recent State of Play even featured a tease that Santa Monica Studios is working on remakes of the original PS2 God of War trilogy, as well as a reveal and shadow-drop of the long-rumored God of War 2D game, which is available now on PS5.
