Bungie has confirmed that it plans to address one of Marathon‘s biggest problems, which has been pushing away players from the game. First revealed in May 2025, Marathon is the studio’s upcoming extraction shooter and its next major release. The game’s Server Slam playtest began on February 26 and will run until March 2 across major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Despite facing several controversies, the title has managed to attract over 140,000 concurrent players on Steam.
However, the Marathon’s Server Slam event hasn’t been entirely smooth. Players across social media have raised their voice against multiple aspects of the game, especially its movement, aiming, short time to kill, limited PvP encounters, and overall mechanics. Bungie has stated that it’s actively listening to player feedback and working on improvements. However, now the developer has also acknowledged one of the game’s biggest issues that many players have described as an “eyesore” when playing.
New Bungie’s Marathon Leak Reveals Major Improvements
A reputable insider leaks new details surrounding Marathon’s latest closed playtest, namely some substantial upgrades for the upcoming Bungie shooter.
Bungie Plans to Fix A Major Marathon Issue Soon
Bungie has addressed the feedback about the Marathon Server Slam, stating that it plans to keep refining the game, especially the User Interface (UI). The studio noted that it is still learning from the player’s responses and working through the concerns related to the UI, while encouraging the community to keep sharing their thoughts. Players have been invited to visit the game’s official Discord to provide their feedback on the interface, highlight the issues they feel are affecting it, and suggest how they would like certain things to be improved.
Bungie states that it plans on improving Marathon‘s UI after launch, and will update players on any timelines when possible. Not only that, but Bungie has also confirmed that it has identified and fixed several other problems that were reported by the community during the Server Slam event. This includes the likes of the run-voice chat bug, mouse input lag on PC, PvP frequency issues, and various performance problems that affected gameplay.
The UI has been one of Marathon‘s most bashed elements among critics, players, and streamers. Many have said that item readability in the game is poor, as the interface makes it hard to understand what items do unless you hover over them. Since many items in the game look very similar, players often spend more time figuring out their function, and not playing the game itself. This can prove to be frustrating during high-pressure situations. Players have also described the UI as cluttered, unintuitive, and just difficult in general to navigate through. What’s interesting is that these complaints about Marathon also date back to the alpha phase. Many can’t help but wonder why major changes surrounding the UI of the extraction shooter were not made earlier.
It’s encouraging to see that Bungie has acknowledged one of Marathon‘s biggest concerns, but the UI issues should have been resolved before the game’s launch, which is just a week away. Other than that, players still believe that there are various areas of the game that still need close attention. They are still frustrated with aspects like the in-game economy, lack of a training range, movement issues, and more. However, the community is hopeful that these issues will be addressed soon, since Bungie has acted on problems like cheating, confirming that anyone who is caught will be permanently banned from Marathon without any second chances. The studio can’t take any second chances with Marathon, as Destiny 2 has been underperforming for a while now, and the game is already facing competition from titles like ARC Raiders.
